viTTup paDaittalaivar veeravisu vaksEnar *

siTTar tozhakurugUr seermalga – eTTezhuttai *

vAimozhiyAl tAnvirittAr vandudittu mARanAyen *

tAimozhiyAm taNDamizhil tandu.

 

SrImath VishvaksEnar is the commander-in-chief of VishNu-sEnai.

He is the AchAryan of nammAzhvAr. (please see vAzhttu poems)

Grasping the esoteric meaning of tirumantram from his AchAryan,

nammAzhvAr expanded it in enjoyable tamizh as tiruvAimozhi.

Here, nammAzhvAr is venerated as the amSAvatAram of vishNu aneekESa

Srimath VishvaksEnar and tamizh is respected as an extraordinary

language capable of conveying the meanings of Sruti in a special

manner.

tandugaLAr veeNai * taDaviyEzh innisaiyA

nandamadAi nAradar nangezhuppa – sanda *

dirAviDa vEdam tigazhinimai Ongum *

parAviDa sollillai pAr.

 

SVami dESikan points to the sweet sound generated by ranganAtha

pAdukAs excelling many other sweetest nAdams and sounds. Here, in

this poem also, the sweetness of tiruvAimozhi is venerated as

surpassing the veeNA gAnam of dEva-Rshi nAradA. Here AzhvAr's

anugraham to SrImannAthamunigaL is recalled. SrIman nAthamuni is a

great patron, who set wonderful tunes and rhythms to tamizhmaRai.
