I fully to the view expressed by Sri Hari Swami.

The regret expressed must be for the devathanthra connection.

In stead it was conditioned upon the possibility that Sri Hari

may have felt hurt. I do not think Sri Hari's feeling was hurt.

Why would he feel hurt if someone else is confused? As a

concerned devotee he fulfilled his obligation and pointed out

the problem. It is up to the erring individual to take action

and get relief. The hurt is only for those who find it hard to

give up devathantra sambhandham. Illustrious family connection

actually makes it even harder for them.

 

We have talked about Devathantram in this forum several times.

But it does not hurt to emphasize again when the issue comes

up like this. Here is a paasuram Srimad Azhagiya Singar cited

during tele-upanyasam.

 

Thiruchchandaviruttham #69

 

kaaNilum uru polaar sevikku inaatha keerththiyaar,

pENilum varan thara midukkilaatha dhEvarai,

aaNam enRu adaindhu vaazhum aatharkaaL em aathi paal,

pENi num piRapu enum piNakku aRukka kiRRirE.

 

uru = sarIram

polaar = terrible to look at

aaNam = refuge (araN)

aatharkaaL = fools

 

" O! Fools! you seek refuge under the powerless gods; they are

repulsive to behold; their exploits are unpleasant to the ear;

they are helpless to offer any succor even if you seek their

refuge; yet you fools take these gods as your protection;

are you not capable of surrendering to our primordial Lord

and get released from the karma that causes this unending

cycle of birth and death?

 

A pasuram by Thirumangai Mannan goes further and to the

heart of the issue.

 

Periya Thirumozhi #8.10.3

maRRum Or dheyvam uLathenRu iruppaarOdu

uRRilEn, uRRathum un adiyaarkku adimai,

maRRellam pEsilum nin thiru ettezhutthum

kaRRu, naan kaNNapuraththu uRai ammaanE!

 

uRRilEn = will not have contact

uRRathum = oblige

 

O! my Lord of Thirukannapuram! verily I will cut

myself off from those who just as much as wonder

whether there is evidence for the worship of gods

other than you; on the other hand, even though the

moola manthram I learnt from you talks of many

esoteric concepts, what is pleasing to me is to be a

slave to those who take you as their sovereign Lord.
