1. sa nirjithya pureem SreshTaam

lankaam thaam

 

kaamaroopiNeem

vikramena mahaathejaaH hanoomaan

kapisatthamaH

 

Hanuman, the best of

monkeys, who has great glory, vanquishing the great city of Lanka, capable of taking any form, with his

valour,

 

sa hanoomaan-

That Hanuman

 

kapisatthamaH- the best of monkeys

 

mahaathejaaH-

who has great glory

 

nirjithya- vanquishing

 

pureem

SreshTaam lankaam thaam- that great

city of Lanka,

 

kaamaroopiNeem- capable of taking any form

 

vikramena- with his valour

 

 

2. adhvaareNa

mahaabaahuH praakaaram abhipupluve

 

niSi lankaam mahaasathvaH viveSa

kapikunjaraH

 

the elephant among monkeys

who had great strength and mighty arms, leapt over the wall where there was no

gate and entered Lanka in the night

abhipupluve

, leapt over, pupluve means jumped

with abhi itmeans leapt over

praviSya nagareem lankaam kapiraajahithankaraH

 

Chakre aTha paadham savyam cha SathrooNaam

moorDhani

 

The benefactor of the king

of monkeys, entering the city of Lanka

set his left foot forward which was akin to placing it on the head of the

enemies.

On entering the abode of

an enemy whom one wishes to vanquish one should not enter through the proper gate

and also should put only left foot forward, right foot denoting auspicious ness

and left foot the reverse.

maaruthaathmajaH

 

 

sa mahaapaTham aasThaaya

mukthapushpaviraajitham

 

thathasthu thaam pureem lankaam ramyaam

abhiyayou

The son of Vayu, of great

power , entering in the night took the path strewn with pearls and flowers and went

round the beautiful city of Lanka,

 

sa maaruthaathmajaH that son of vayu

 

satthva sampannah endowed

with great power

 

pravishtaH entering

 

nisaayaam in the night

 

aasThaaya

took

 

mahaapaTham

the great path

 

mukthapushpaviraajitham

strewn with pearls and flowers

abhyayou went round, yayaou meas went with abhi it means around

hasithothkrshtaninadhaiH thooryaghosha purassaraiH

 

vajraankuSanikaaSaiH cha

vajrajaalavibhoshithaiH

 

with the sound of laughter and loud

musical instruments, powerful like the

vajrayudha and with windows decorated with diamonds,

 

hasithothkrshtaninadhaiH

purassaraiH and loud musical instruments

 

vajraankuSanikaaSaiH

powerful like the vajrayudha (qualifies

the houses)

 

vajrajaalavibhoshithaiH

and with windows decorated with

diamonds

 

The adjective , like vajrayuDha

denotes the strength of the houses.

 

6. grhamukhyaiH

puree ramyaa babhaase dhyouh iva

ambhudhaiH

 

The beautiful city shone

with its prominent and beautiful houses like the sky with clouds.

7. prajajvaala

thadhaa lankaa rakshogana grhaiH SubhaiH

 

Thus Lanka shone

brilliantly with the good looking houses of rakshasas.
