Guest guest
Chapter 22 and 23- The clan of Kuru and Yadhu Then Suka traced the Kuruvamsa. Kuru was the son of Hasti who was the great grand son of Manyu and who founded the Hasthinapura. Pradeepa was the son of Kuru who had Dhevapi, Santhanu and Angika as his sons and Dhevapi went to forest, not desiring the kingdom and hence Santhanu became the king. He married Ganga and Bhishma was born to them.later he married Sathyavathi and Chirthrangadha and Vichithraveery awere born to her. Chithrangadha was killed by a gandharva of the same name and Vichithraveerya married Amba and Ambalika but died of consumption without a heir to the throne. Dhrthrashtra and Pandu were born to Amba and Ambalika by the grace of sage Vyasa who was another son of Sathyavathi from Parasara. Pandavas were the sons of Pandy and Kouravas were the sons of Dhrtharashtra. Pareekshith was born to Abhimanyu, son of Arjuna. Then Suka described the yadhuvamsa , in which the Lord was born as Vaasudeva Krishna.Yadhu had four sons, sahasrajith, Kroshta, Nala and Ripu.Sahasrajith was the ancestor of yaadhavas and vrishnis. and Kroshta was the ancestor of Bojas and Sathvathas.Dhevameeda was the descendent of Kroshta and his son was Soora. He had two sons and six daughters. His sons were Vasudeva and Dhevabhaga whose son was Uddhava. His daughters were PrThaa, alos called Kunthi, the mother of Pandavas, Sruthadheva, the mother of Dhanthvakthra, Srithasrvaa, mother of Sisupaala,Sruthakeerthi and Rajaadhidhevi. The skandha ends by Suka hinting on Krshnavathara, the subject matter of the next, Dasamaskandha. Suka says, yadhaa yadhaa iha dharmasya kshayaH vrdDhiScha paapmanaH thadhaa thu bhagavaan eesaH aathmaanam srjathe hariH The Lord manifests Himself whenever there is dearth of dharma and invrease of sin, tp protect the dharma and destroy the evil. This reflects the words of Krishna in the Gita, yadha yadha hi dharmasya glaniH bhavathi bhaaratha, abhyutthaanam adharmasya thadhaa aathmaanam srjaamyaham.
