Separation from Him is felt so painful by the devotees, that they cannot be treated without adorning them with the Tulasi garland of the Lord and taking them to His place, the very old ThiruvEngkatam. “uRukinRa kanmangkaL mElAna vErppilarAy, ivaLaip peRukinRa thAyar meynonthu peRArkol? thuzhAy kuzhalvAytthu uRukinRilar, thollai vEngkatam Attavum choozhkinRilar iRukinRathAl ivaLAkam mellAvi erikoLLavE” (The mother of this Lady-love has not understood what is to be done to treat her for the disease from which she is suffering. Whatever she is doing only increases her pain and not subdues it; perhaps she didn’t get this daughter through much physical effort! She does not adorn her with the Tulasi garland of the Lord; does not think of taking her to the ancient ThiruvEngkata Hill. Her body is becoming weaker and weaker; the painful separation from Him may lead to her death.) 82. He is present there to give His gracious look at His devotees. “erikoL chennAyiRu iraNdudanE uthayam malaivAy virikinRa vaNNattha emprumAn kaNkaL.” (The Lord's eyes look like two bright suns that have just risen above the mountain.) 83. He is present there to listen to His names being recited by the devotees with their bodies and hearts melting in devotion. “mukil vaNNan pEr kiLarik kiLarip pithaRRum mellAviyum naivumellAm thaLirin kolO aRiyEn.” (Her life-breath and the body look weakened, as she is with great difficulty murmuring the names of the Lord, Who is of the colour of dark rainy cloud.) 84. He shines more when He is in the crowds of devotees. “thaiya nallArkaL kuzhAngkal kuzhiya kuzhuvinuLLum iyya nallArkaL kuzhiya vizhvinum angkangkellAm kaiyya ponnAshi veNcangkodum kANpAn avAvuvan nAn maiyyavaNNA, maniyE, mutthamE, enthan mANikkame” (Oh, Black gem! My Lord, with the brilliance of blue ruby, pearl and gem! I wish to witness You, with the golden Discus and the white Conch in Your hands, in the midst of a big crowd of beautiful girls; or a gathering of virtuous men; or in crowded festivals; or any such flood of people!) 85. He has no equal in excellence, because of the prapatthi or surrender resorted to by devotees at His feet. “maRRoppArai illA ANipponnE, adiyEn adi Avi adaikkalamE ” (Oh my Lord with none equal to you! With the brilliance of the rarest kind of gold! This soul of mine, Your servant, is deposited with You.) (To continue) dAsan Anbil S.
