TIRUVIRUTTAM

And

THE AUSPICIOUS QUALITIES OF THE LORD (18)

-----

86. The Lord is not only great in gracing even those

who are considered as His equal, but also He is easily

submissive to His devotees.

“adaikkalatthu Ongku kamalatthalar ayan

chenniyennum

mudaikkalatthu ooN mun aranukku neekkiyai, Azhi

cangkam

padaikkalm Enthiyai, veNNaikku anRu Acchi

vanthAmbukaLal

pudaikka alanthAnai, emmAnai, en chollip

pulambuvanE?”

(What can say about my Lord, Who once cleared Shiva of

the curse of begging for food in the skull of Brahma’s

head, Who carries the weapons of discus and conch in

hands, Who appeared pathetic when He was bound in

strong ropes by Yashoda, the cowherd-woman, for

stealing butter?)

87. He is loved by SrI who is the cause for His grace.

“ThirumAl”

(The Lord is affectionate to SrI.)

88. He appears to devotees along with His Consort.

“thirumAl uruvokkum mEru, ammEruvil cenchudarOn

thirumAl thirukkait thirucchkkaram okkum, annakaNdum

thirumAl uruvOdu avanchinnamE pithaRRA niRpathOr

thirumAl thalaikkonda nangkatku enkE varum

theevinaiyE?”

(The Meru mountain is similar to the Consort of SrI.

The reddish bright Sun near the Meru mountain is

similar to the Discus held in the hand by the Lord.

When I have acquired such a unique devotion for Him as

to start blurting His names and His symbols, on merely

looking at similar objects, how would I commit sin

that may lead to separation from Him?)

89. Just because of His association with Sri, the Lord

removes the sins of His devotees and blesses them with

the pleasure of serving Him.

“theevinaikku Arum nanjai, nalvinaikku

amudatthinai,

poovinai mEviya dEvi maNALanai, punmai eLkAthu

Avinai mEikkum vallAyanai, anRulaku eeradiyAl

thAvina eRRai, emmAnai, ennjnAnRu thalaip

peivanE? ”

(When will I attain my Lord, Who is the effective

poison to the sins of His devotees, Who is the nectar

for their virtuous acts, Who is the Consort of SrI who

stays in the lotus, Who was once a shepherd

efficiently grazing the cows without despising it as a

mean job, Who had long ago, proudly measured all the

worlds in just two steps?)

90. He adds greatness to the devotees’ bodies that are

adorned with His feet.

“thalaippeithi yAnun thiruvadi choodum thakaimiyinAl

nilaippeitha Akkaikku nORRa immAyam”

(What mysterious act have I done to get this body

which proudly carries Your lotus feet on it?)
