The birth of the month of Thai occurs at 4:09 p.m. USA Eastern time on Wednesday. Therefore, for U.S.A. Pongal must be celebrated on Wednesday (Jan 14, 2004). The exact time to celebrate Pongal may vary from family to family. I checked with Sri Azhisur Srinivasacahar, the one who writes Panjanga Sanghraham in Sri Nrisimha Priya. His direction is for us to celebrate it after 4:09 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday. If the sun set is approximately before 4:30 p.m. Eastern time, then you may celebrate Pongal on Thursday. For sishyas East of USA, birth of Thai will occur after sun set and therefore Pongal will have to be celebrated only after sunrise on Thursday, Jan 15, 2004. Happy Pongal! -- adiyEn ramanuja dasan srimad azhagiya singar thiruvadi
