Swamy Deshikan Thiruvadigale Sharanam !!!

Purattasi thiruvonam, that marks the thirunakshatram of Swamy Deshikan, is

also marks the thirunakshatram of the 35th pattam Swamy of Parakala matham,

Srimadabhinava Ramanuja Brahmatantra Swatantra Parakala Maha Deshikan.

Following is a tribute to this acharya sarvabhouma.

Srimad Abhinava Ramanuja Brahmatantra Swatantra Parakala Yatindra Maha

Deshikan

1971 - 1992

One of the greatest acharyas of Sri Swamy Deshika sampradayam, the 35th

pattam Sri Parakala Swamy.

In his poorvashramam, he was known as Anantacharya. He was born in

Chikkaballapur, in the year of Paingala, month of Bhadrapada in the

constellation of Shravana on an Ekadashi that would be Thursday, and

14-9-1917, as the third illustrious son to Sri Thirumalai Rangacharya and

Thirumati Sinamma, daughter of Nallan Chakravarthi Sri Ananthacharya. Theirs

was an illustrious family of scholars dedicated to Sri Sampradayam. He

started his education at an early age after the religious sacraments of

chowla and upanayana, under the able guidance of Sri Thirumalai

Krishnamacharya, who taught him Sanskrit and Vedas along with sampradayic

lessons. After passing his matriculation, he moved to Mysore and got the

sacraments of pancha samskaram performed at the feet of Srimad Abhinava

Ranganatha Brahmatantra Swatantra Parakala Yatindra Maha Deshikan, the then

acharya of Sri Brahmatantra Swatantra Parakala samsthanam. He then continued

his higher studies in Sanskrit and Vedanta Shastra and passed the vidwat

examinations in both these subjects. He entered into the fold of a gruhasta

by marrying the daughter of one of the descendants of the 26th pattam

acharya of Parakala samsthanam, Sri Brahmatantra Ghantavatara Maha Deshikan.

He continued performing kainkaryam at the matham and performed Grantha

chatushtaya kalakshepam at the feet of Sri Periya Parakala Swamy, who

provided him with the bhagyam of performing aradhanam to Lakshmi Hayagrivar,

after seeing his anushtanam and vairagyam. Due to the anugraham of his

acharya and Sri Lakshmi Hayagrivar, he became a great master of Ramanuja -

Deshika sampradayam. He then served at the Chintamani, Hasana and Vijayapura

pathashala as Sanskrit Pandit. He excelled in Sanskrit, Tamil, Kannada,

Telugu and English languages.

In the year 1971, during the times of Srimad Abhinava Srinivasa Brahmatantra

Maha Deshikan, Sriman Anantacharya got an invitation to ascend to the

acharya peetam at Mysore. He gave his ascent and in the year Virodhikruth,

month of Jeshta 3-6-1971, Sriman Ananthacharya ascended the acharya peetam

of Srimad Brahmatantra Swatantra samsthanam with the title " Srimad Abhinava

Ramanuja Brahmatantra Swatantra Parakala Yatindra Maha Deshikan " . He

continued on the pancha kala patha with great anushtana, devotion and

vairagya. The Sri Matham environment was not new to him and very soon he

gathered a huge number of shishyas who performed the Sri Vaishnava

sacraments of Chakrankanam and Prapatti at his feet. He spent most of his

time in Vedanta kalakshepam and writings. His bhakti and love for Sri

Lakshmi Hayagrivar grew day by day and always addressed Sri Lakshmi

Hayagrivar as " en appan " . Many great students performed Vedanta kalakshepam

at his feet and became eminent vidwans. His contemporary deshika sampradayam

acharyas and scholars admired and respected his mastery in Vedanta. He

undertook sancharam to many places, many divya deshams propagating Swamy

Ramanuja sampradayam and also built many new buildings for Sri Matham

installing the archa vigraham of Sri Lakshmi Hayagrivar in those places.

He also published many poorvacharya works and authored many of his own.

He stayed on the acharya peetam for a period of 20 years and attained his

acharya thiruvadi in the year 1992.

His taniyan reads as follows -

Following is a poem on this acharya composed in English by Sri Srinivasan

during the acharya's visit to Madras.

Hail Sri Abhinava ramanuja Parakala Yatindra Maha Deshika

Archaka devoted of Lord Lakshmi Hayagreeva

Ishta-Devata of Nigamantha Maha Deshika

Lovingly worshipped and loftily adored,

Shining Rajaguru of Karnataka Bhoopathis,

Revered acharya in the hoary line of Brahmatantra Paramacharya,

Illustrious head of ancient and reputed Parakala Mutt

Propagating Philosophy and Religion according to Deshika's Cult,

A warm and hearty welcome doth Madras extend to thee,

Respectful and reverential, with Pranams at the holy feet ;

Afforded hast thou to us in distant Madras

Kindly and graciously, the boon and blessing

A rare opportunity to worship Lord Hayagriva sweet and supple

Like Ganga waters pouring on the head of a cripple

Adding thereto the privilege of prostrating before thee,

Seeing thee in person, listening to thy words of wisdom

What great good could we have done in the past

As to qualify us for this soul's rich repast ?

May the gracious Lord confer on thee His great bounty

Tears and Tears to live there in peace and plenty.
