TIRUVIRUTTAM

And

THE AUSPICIOUS QUALITIES OF THE LORD (10)

-----

46. The Lord has many auspicious qualities which will

make those who have attained Him, to remain with a

determined mind, having no thought of leaving Him

ever.

“appon peyarOn

tadanencam keenda pirAnAr tamatadik keezh vidappOi,

tidanencamAi emmai neetthu inRutARum tirikinRatE.”

(I sent my heart as a messenger to the feet of the

Lord Who had easily broken the hard chest of the

demon, HiraNya. It also rushed there with

determination. But, it has abandoned me who sent it as

a messenger, and till now, it is very happily

following Him wherever He goes.)

47. The Lord has such good qualities which will make

the devotees to enjoy Him without any break. In case a

break occurs, even friendly objects will appear to be

inimical to them.

“tirikinRatu vadamArutam tingaL ventee mukantu,

choarikinRatu athuvumathu, kaNNan viNNoor tozhavE,

sarikinRthu changam,taNNam tuzhAikku vaNNam payalai

virikinRatu muzhu-mayyum, ennAngkol en melliyaRkE?”

(The hot northern breeze blows. The Moon, which is

usually pleasant, pours cinders. It is the same as

that (the hot air from the north). All these happen to

my gentle daughter who could not get fulfilled her

wish to continuously worship, without any break, the

Paramapadam, the Abode of Krishna; with the result,

her bracelet made of conches slips from her hand; Her

desire for the pleasant Tulasi garland of the Lord has

not been materialized; and so, the golden tinge of her

entire body has turned black. What will happen to my

girl?)

[This is the worry of the mother of the Lady-love of

the Lord.]

48. The Lord gives the full enjoyment to the devotees

who are happily experiencing His auspicious qualities,

so that their minds do not go after anything else.

“melliyal Akkaik kirumi kuruvil miLir-tantu AngE

chelliya chelkaittu ulakai en kANum? ennAlum tannaic

holliya soozhal tirumAlavan kavi yAtu kaRREn?

Palliyin chollum chollAk koLvathO uNdu paNdu paNdE.”

(The slender worm, born in the wound, stays there

itself. It is its nature. How it will be aware of the

world? It will not. Similarly I am placed. The Consort

of Lakshmi cleverly got me sung about Himself. How do

I know about His clever words? The chirp of the lizard

is considered as an omen since long. Isn't it?)

49. He Himself is used to enjoy again and again the

same experience of the devotees.

“perumAn madusoodanan dAmOdaran

uNdum umizhntum katAya maNNEr anna oNNutalE”

(You have the bright beautiful face, similar to that

of the world which was saved by the Lord, by

swallowing it at the time of the deluge and bringing

it out, at the end of the deluge. He is the Over-Lord

and also named as Madu-soodanan and DAmOdaran.) [The

Lady-love is addressed by her maid-friend.]

50. In the matter of enjoying, He shows the similar

urgency as His devotees.

“oNNutal mAmai oLi payavAmai, virainthu nam tEr

naNNutal vENdum valava! kadAka inRu.”

(Oh, Charioteer! Our chariot should be driven now in

such a speed as to reach there, before the golden

colour of My lady-love’s body turns into green.) [This

is uttered by the lover to his charioteer.]
