Srimath Azhagiyasingar's maasa thirunakshatiram

Dear Bhagavathas

 

Adiyen then woke up the next day (June 19th, maasa thirunakshatiram of asmad

acharyan) at around 5:30 a.m. Took bath and performer sandyavandanam.

Proceeded with the bhattar to Devanathaswami temple for Viswaroopa darsanam.

Nadaswaram was played and a cow was brought in front of the sanctum

sanctorum and Perumal has a darshan of the cow. Then aradhakar offers some

argyam etc and offers milk. The milk is given to devotees who come for the

viswaroopa darsanam. Everyday, the Sri Satari is taken from Devanathan

sannidhi and Swami Desikan gets the first satari. Then only it is given to

kaimkarya parals or any body else for the matter of fact. The other

sannidhis open in few more minutes. Adiyen had a good darshan of perumal,

thayar and Swami desikan.

 

Then I proceeded to the mutt. The thirupalliyezhuchi had just ended and the

aradhakars were making things ready for abhigamana aradhanam. After some

time, Srimath Azhagiyasingar entered the mutt and all devotees prostrated

before him. Before the aradhanam, separate goshtis were reciting vedams and

prabandhams as well. The prabhanda parayanam was ended with Nachiyar

thirumozhi. Srimath Azhagiyasingar took over the aradhanam. He showed

managala arathi, performed mantra pushpam and then thaligai was offered. The

sattrumurai started with Srimath Azhagiyasingar giving the nod for the same.

All the vedams were represented by separate gosthis and they all recited it

very well. Then prabhanda sattrumurai was started with Sirukale .. The

Thiruvahindrapuram local goshti took over the sattrumurai at this point of

time. They recited all the pasurams in their " unique " style which was

enjoyed by Sri Azhagiyasingar very much. Sirukale, nallai nenche, pandirukum

melviralAl, Oonidai suvarvai, Nattai Padayendru ayan mudala (nachiyar

thirumozhi sattrumurai pasurm) followed by adikalapathu, adivan satakopan

adaikala pathu and nrusimhan adaikalapathu. This was followed by recitation

of pallandu and the rest of the sri matam sattrumurai. The mutt sishyas

started pallandu in a fast manner. Sri Azhagiyasingar intervened and then

asked everyone to recite in the slow manner and in the style of

thiruvahindrapuram goshti. After this, perumal theertham was given. The

satari was given by Sri Azhagiyasingar himself. Then, the padukai theertam

was given. After this sambavanai was made to Sri Azhagiyasingar on the eve

of maasa thirunakshatiram. During this time a special mention was made by

Sri. P.N.K. Sriranganathan that Sri. V. Satakopan had coordinated the

collection of funds. Also a mention was made about one " Sri. Sudarshan

Parthasarati (hope that i got the name right) " who had donated a chunk of

the funds through Sri. V. Satakopan swamin.

 

 

Once this was over, the kaimkarya parals were getting ready to do the ijyai

aradhanam. Adiyen now rushed back to devanathan temple and had darshan of

Sri. Hayagrivar in the malai. After having a satisfying darshan, adiyen went

back and had darshan of perumal, thayar and swami desikan again. Then adiyen

went and ate in the bhattar's house itself. After I had finished my lunch,

adiyen went to mutt again. The ijyai aradhanam was nearing completion at

this time and adiyen got theertha prasadam. Then thathiyarathanai was

started. Before the thathiyarathanai, adiyen went close to the silver

mantapam and had a very good glimpse of Malolan, Dolai krishnar and other

perumals and acharyals. As adiyen had already finished my lunch, adiyen

waited outside the mutt. At this point, I was cursing myself as to why I did

not eat in mutt. But later on, adiyen got the pratyega prasadam given to

Aradhakar swamins from my chittya who was on duty in Mutt at that point of

time. After this, adiyen started back to kumbakonam. There were nearly 500 -

600 devotees assembled (most of them Sri Vaishnavas) for the

thirunakshatiram. The whole of thiruvahindrapuram seemed to be inside the

mutt on that day. The whole of thiruvahindrapuram wore a festive look and it

just cannot be expressed in words, how much joy was there when attending the

thirunakshatiram celebrations. If any of USA folks are going to India, they

should try to make it to the maasa thirunakshatiram.
