SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah;

Dearest all,

After the first four AzhwArs namely, Poigai, bhootha,

Pey and Thirumazhisai Azhwar’s enjoyment of

ThiruvEnkatam, we were blessed with Kulasekara

PerumAn’s wonderful eleven verses on ThiruvEnkatam.

Now let us enjoy ThiruppANaazhwAr’s 3rd verse today.

manthi paayvada vEnkada maamalai, vaanavar_kaL,

santhi seyya ninRaa Nnarankath tharavi NnaNaiyaan,

anthi pOln^iRath thaadaiyu mathanmEl ayanaip

padaiththa thOrezhil unthi mElathan RO_adi yEnuLLath

thinnuyirE.

Mandhi pAya vada vEnkata mAmalai- The Lord, Sri

Ranganatha, who reclines on the serpent couch (Adhi

sEshA) in Sri Rangam, is the same Lord VishNu,

(Srinivasa) who has stood in the North at the Great

Venkata Hills, where monkeys jump from one tree to the

other. Lord Srinivasa has stood for the sake of Gods,

who come to worship Him; the sweet core (inner soul)

of my heart rests on the twilight coloured garment of

the Lord and on His beautiful NAVEL, above it (the

garment)-the GREAT NAVEL that created the four faced

God Ajah(BrahmA).

The verse thus means: The Lord reclining on the

serpent couch in Srirangam is the Lord, who stood on

the great Venkatam mountain in the north [of Tamil

Nadu], with monkeys running hither and thither,--in

order that the celestials may worship Him there at the

Thiru Venkata dhivya dEsam.

The twilight-colored pithAmbharam of that Lord ( Sri

RanganAthan) and the shining navel above it, which

created the (four-faced) BrahmA on it, is the place of

rest for my mind's sweet soul. [moneys refer to our

fickle minds as well]

Here Acharyas comment that SrIvaikuNta nAthan Sriman

Narayanan in roder to come into our place (earth) and

stay here to shower grace on us and to let us enjoy

Him and His sowlabhyam… recline in Srirangam, He first

stands at ThiruvEnkatam.. When someone enters our

home, first he stands, sits and then decides to settle

down there and reclines… So, Rangan is here to stay…

vaanavargaL sandhi seyya ninRaan- The Nithyasuris like

Anantha, Garuda, Vishvaksenar et al come here at

ThiruvEnkatam to enjoy seeing Him. Why? They could

have enjoyed the same extent in SrivaikuNtam. Yes… But

sriman Narayanan enjoying the company of Nithyars,

Mukthars at SrivaikuNtam in its entirety wants the

poor souls like us (Baddha jeevathmas, the human

beings, the animals, the birds, trees etc to enjoy Him

as well. So, He out of His parama kaaruNyam comes to

ThiruvEnkatam (before coming to the delta of Cauveri

in Thiruvarangam) and stands there majestically

declaring His Supremacy and showing his bhaktha

vaathsalyam, kaaruNyam.

Nithyasuris wonder as to where He had gone… and wants

to see why… So, they come here at ThiruvEnkatam to see

His sowlabhyam and sowseelyam. The beings go to see

Him and enjoy Him hearing about His glories, His

Parathvam, his greatness and see who is this Greatest

lord and How does He look. Thus they assemble going

from down to the top of mountain. The Nithyars come

from top to the mountain… Thus ThiruvEnkatam is the

meeting point. One comes to see His sowlabhyam and

others [human beings and animals] go to Him to enjoy

His Supremacy and Greatness.

Sri MK Sudharsan shares his anubhavam [as commented by

Poorvacharyas] the first pasuram beginning with

" AmalanAdhipiran..... " has as its irst " akshara " the

syllable " A " . The second verse beginning with

" UvandhaULathanAy .... " begins with the syllable " U "

and the third verse, " MandhipAy .... " begins with the

syllable, " Ma " . If you add the three syllable you get

" A " " U " and " M " ; in other words you get the sound of

the " pranava "

Again in the " AmalanAdipiran " , there are three

continuous stanzas which begin as

" PAramAyapazhavinai.... " followed by the next stanza

which begins with " ThUndavinpirayan ... " .This is

followed by KaiyInArsuri. " . Now if you take the first

three syllables of each of the three " pAsurams " you

get " Pa " , " thu " and " kai " giving you the esoteric

significance of the Lord's " padukai " or his Divine

Feet to which we all are hankering after in varying

degrees.

Let us how Sri Manavala maanuni enjoys in his upadesa

ratthina maalai on ThiruppANAzhwAr’s birth as:

Kaarthikai-UrOhiNI nALL kANNmin inRu

Vaaittha Pukazh PaaNar vanthu uthippAl--aatthiyarkaL

anbudanE thAnn AmalanAdhipirAn KaRRathaRppinn

NankudanE koNdAdum NaaLL

Oh people of this World ! Please recognize this day as

Kaarthikai RohiNi dinam. This is the day on which the

aasthikAs celebrate well the ThiruppANAzhwAr of

lasting fame and feel joyous over the good fortune to

have learned the inner meanings of his Dhivya

prabhandham, AmalanAdhipirAn with intense devotion .
