SrivaishnavamSri :

Dear Sri Sudarsana BhakthAs :

For success in Bhaghavath-BhAgavatha-AchArya kaimkaryams , we always seek

the anugraham of Lord Sudarsanar .

May we invoke now the power of Sudarsana BhagavAn for success in the completion

of

the MahA Mantapa Kaimkaryam on top of the OushadhAdhri , where Swamy had

Garuda and HayagrIva Manthra Siddhi and had the direct darsanam of

Garudar and Lord HayagrIvar . Please help Sriman Soundararajan Desikan ,

the coordinator of this mighty kainkaryam described at :

http://www.srikainkaraym.org

Sri Sudarsana Sathakam is one of the most powerful SthOthram composed by

Sri Koora NaarAyaNa Jeeyar , a contemproray of AchArya RaamAnuja . Sri U. Ve.

SthalasayanatthuRaivAr Swamy of ThiruvallikkENi KshEthram , Sishyar of

VaamamAmalai HH Kaliya Jeetar Swamy has commented upon this SthOthram

with beautiful insights .

adiyEn will comment briefly on the 96th and 100th SlOkam of Sri Sudarsana

Sathakam here

and seek the anugraham of the Sankalpa Sakthi of Lord Hayagreevan and Sri

Narasimha

BhagavAn for success in the kaimkaryam undertaken by Sri SoundararAja Desikan

Swamy of Thiruvaheendhrapuram's .

96th SlOkam of Sri Sudarsana Sathakam

************************************************

This is a powerful SlOkam saluting the architecture of the adhbhutha Sudarsana

Yanthram.

This Yanthra Form is described in Ahirbhudhnya Samhithai . The SlOkam takes this

form :

GaayatryarNAra chakrE praTamamanusakha smEra pathrAravindhE

BhimBam vahnEs-thrikOnam vahathy jayi jayaadhyAshta Sakthou nishaNNaa

Sokam vOaSOkamoolE padha savidhalasath bheema-bheemAksha bheema

pumsO dhivyAsthra dhAmaa Purusha-Harimayee Moorthyrasya thvapoorvA

Here , Narasimhar in the form of Sudarsanar holding four chakrams in His hands

and sitting in YogAsanam ( yOga Pattai as at Thirukkadigai and ThiruvallikkENi

is being prayed to for destruction of SamsAric Dukkhams . This Narasimha

Moorthy is

worshipped as Sudarsana Narasimhan . A twelve leafed lotus is drawn as the seat

for

DhvAdasAkshara Manthram ( Om NamO BhagavathE VaasudEVAya) . At he center of

that 12 petalled lotus , the triangular image of Agni is drawn and consecrated .

The next

step is to position with manthrams the 8 kinds of Sakthis in the 9 directions :

PrAchi (East ) disai / Jayai , AagnEyam ( South East ) / Mohini ,

Yaamya (South) disai /Vijayai , Nirrudhi ( South West) / HlAdhini ,

West Disai / Ajithai , Vaayu Disai( North West )/Maayai with black hue ,

North Disai / AparAjithai and North East ( YeesAnyam) / Siddhi .

These Ashta Siddhis stay guard over the Thri kONa Agni BhimBam and

DhvAdasAkshara

Yanthram . A Disc with 24 spokes are drawn and is invoked to be present at the

botom of

an AsOkha Vruksham and at the feet of ChakratthAzhvAn invoked therein , two

fightening

figures ( BheemAkshars) are invited to be present . All of this constitute the

Sudarsana Yanthram

inside which Lord Yoga Narasimhan Presides to chase away all of our sorrows and

fears .

The JyOthirmaya Sudarsana Narasimhan is the heart of the Sudarsana Yanthram .

This 96th SlOkam visualizes that powerful Yanthram . The 24 spokes of the

chakram

represent the 24 aksharams of Gayathri Manthram .

The 12 petals of the Vyuha VaasudEvan are seen furhter to represent the 12

Moorthys

from Keasavan to DhAmOdharan . The first three of the twelve , Kesavan.

NaarAyaNan and

Maadhavan are recognized as VaasudEva Vyashti BhUthAs ; each of the three

Vyashti BhUthAs

have their own Sakthis known as SrI Sakthis . Govindhan , VishNu and

Madhusoodhanan

are recognized as SankarshaNa Vyashti BhUthaas with three VaaNi sakthis linked

to them .

Thrivikraman , Vaamanan and Sridharan are present in this dhvadasAkshari as

Pradhyumna

Vyashti BhUthAs with three Vaak sakthis . HrusheekEsan , PadhmanAbhan and

DhAmOdharan

are present as Aniruddha Vyashi BhUthAs with the three MruDAni Sakthis.

Outside the Sudarsana Chakram , BhUpuram ( the square ) and PraNavam are drawn

and

on the East , South , West and North directions , the Lord's weapons ( Chakram ,

Gadhai ,

Bow and Sword ) are consecrated .

The Sudarshana -Narasimha Tatthvam and its dep esoteric significance has been

commented on brilliantly by Sri Murali Rangaswamy in SaraNAgahty archives :

adiyEn will comment furhter on the Sudarsana Shadkshari ( Six akshara Manthram )

and His Manthra Svaroopam in the AshtOtthara Satha Naamams for Lord Sudarsana

later .

Prior to this sacred homam , SrI Sudarsana Homa mahA sankalpam is made and the

Lords in the form of VaruNan, Laksmi Naarayanan and Sudarsanar are invoked

(aavAhanam) in a pot of water (Kumbham). In the fire, Lord Lakshmi NaarAyaNan

and His Sudarsanam are invoked (Agni Prathishtai). The Homam starts thereafter

to the accompaniment of 108 or 1008 repetitions (aavrutthi) of the above

manthrAs punctuated by the sacred offerings into the consecrated Agni Kuntam.

The Homam at the Yaaga Bhumi concludes with a PoorNAhUthi into the sacred fire.

It is an auspicious sight to experience the seven tongues of Agni carrying the

Havis to Lord Sudarsana and His antharyAmi, SrIman NaarAyaNa during this homam.

On rare occasions, one can catch a glimpse of the disc form of Lord Sudarsana

appearing in the middle of Agni Kuntam to bless the participants. The soot from

the burnt offerings (Havis and PoorNaahUthi) are placed on the forehead of

participants at the end of the Sudarsana Homam as a shield against every kind of

inauspiciousness.
