Now let us explore the significance of the Kavachams for the Lord . What is a Kavacham ? : Part I ************************************** Kavacham is a form fitting silver or gold cladding to reveal the dhivya MangaLa Vigraham ( Divine physique) of the Lord and to symbolize the superior powers of the archA Moorthys . Kavacham is used from the times of CholA and Vijaya Nagara Kings in temples dear to them . These Kavachams are their samarpaNams to the King of Kings to attest to His Universal souverignity . The Kavacham besides deriving their beauty from the sambhandham ( the association) with the ThirumEni of the Lord remind us that Our Lord is ready to go on a mission to destroy our internal and external enemies that impede us from getting close to Him . As the sthOthram about the Raghu Veeran states : sannaddha: KAVACHEE kaDghee chApa-BhaNadharO yuvaa gacchan mamAgratho nithyam Raama: paathu salakshmana: (Meaning) : May the Youthful Raama with His brother LakshmaNa go in front of me and protect me adorning their KAVACHAM , Sword , Bow and arrows in a state of preparedeness to confront my enemies . The very thought of their defense on our behalves in a state of war readiness makes us profoundly grateful and makes us seek their pardon for our trespasses against Their (Bhagavath) Saasthrams and seek aparAdha KshAmaNam : KaayEna VaachA ManasEndhriyaivaa , BuddhyAthmanA vaa prakruthE: svabhAvAth karOmi yadhyath sakalam parasmai , NAARAAYANAAYETHI SAMARPAYAMI (Meaning ): Oh Sriman NaarAyaNA ! This bonded servant of Yours places at Your sacred feet with utmost reverence all acts performed through my body , spech, mind , cognitive organs and intellect driven by thriguNams . What is a Kavacham: Part II ************************************ Kavacham means a shield . It is a prayer to seek Him as our shield to protect us against all external and Internal enemies . There are the following Kavachams that are usually recited by BhakthAs : 1. NaarAyaNa Kavacham from Bhagavatham (2) MahA Lakshmi Kavacham by Brahma (3) Narasimha Kavacham by Brahma , Brahma Samhithaa (4) Sudarsana Kavacham from Bhrigu Samhithaa by Naradar (5) Hayagriva Kavacham by Siva (6) VarAha kavacham by Siva Each of these Kavachams are powerful and have their own Rishi , Chandas , Bheejam , Sakthi and Keelakam . They have dhyAna SlOkams and anga nyAsa , Kara nyAsams . Please recieve upadEsams on them and leave the burden of Your protection to the Divine Couple (Aathma Rakshaa Bhara SamarpaNam ) . All the Six Kavachams have been recorded in the MP 3 Format by Sri Sunder Kidambi at : http://www.prapatti.com in the audio recording section . Recite these Kavachams in front of the Kavacham Clad Moorthys at Sri RanganathA Temple and recieve their anugrahams !
