In celebration of the glorious navami day, the avatAra dinam of the purushOttaman, SrI rAmAn, SrI hayagrIvan likhita kaimkarya ghoshTi is very happy to announce the release of "Swami Desikan's Hamsa Sandesam Vol2" as EBook # 67 in the SrI hayagrIvan eBooks series. A brief introduction to this sundara kAvyam was released in the ahobilavalli series (http://www.ahobilavalli.org/hamsa.pdf) as volume 1.

 

The present volume consists of commentaries for Slokams 1 - 30 of the prathama AswAsam of this wonderful kAvyam, in which swAmi deSikan has set the stage at the time of separataion of SrI rAmA and SrI sItA after Her apaharaNam by the dushTa rAvaNan, the lankan king. The forlorn, young and loving prince of Ayodhya, misses His beautiful wife SrI Janaki and beseeches the hamsam to act as a messenger to convey to SrI Sita imprisoned at lanka, not only His message of love but also the comfort that HE will come soon to free Her and reunite with Her. The hamsam is chosen as the apt messenger for its beauty, its discerning qualities and its sweet voice, each of which remind the raghuvIra simham of His own sweet wife.

 

In the prathama AswAsam, with His poetic brilliance swAmi deSikan, draws an enchanting picture of the divya kshetrams that line the hamsam's path as it races towards lanka and to SrI Sita devi. He has brought out the beauty of the fertility as well as the uniqueness of these lands in his inimical style, in choice verses written in the mantarakanta meter, which provides a lilting majestic flow to the kAvyam. The divya deSams that are eulogized are Thirupathi, ThirumAliruncholai, Thiruvekka, Thirukkachchi, ThiruveLLarai and Thiruvarangam.

 

aDiyen has completed the meaning and commentaries on the remaining 30 slokams of the prathama AswAsam and the same will be uploaded to the eBooks site soon . Also the dvitIya AswAsam (second AswAsam) will be released as a separate volume later.
