Guest guest Posted February 6, 2010 Report Share Posted February 6, 2010 49 sooryam cha astha gathe raathrou dheham samkshipya maaruthiH vrshadhamsaka maathraH san babhoova adhbhutha dharsanaH At the Sun set in the night Hanuman contracting his body and becoming the size of a cat, looked wonderful. raathrou- in the night sooryam cha asthe gathe- when the sun has set maaruthih- Hanuman samkshipya –contracting dheham- his body vrshadhamSa maathrakaH san- becoming the size of a cat babhoova – was adhbutha dharSanaH- wonderful to look at. 50. pradhosha kale hanumaan thoorNam uthpluthya veeryavaan praviveSa pureem ramyaam suvibhaktha mahaa paThaam The valiant Hanuman speedily flew in the evening and entered the city of Lanka which was beautiful and well divided pathways, veeryavaan- the valiant hanuman- Hanuman pradhoshakale – at dusk uthpluthya- flying up thoorNam- fast pravivesa- entered ramyaam pureem- the beautiful city of Lanka suvibhaktha mahaapaThaaam- with well divided pathways. 51.praasaadhamaalaavithathaam sthambhaiH kaanchanaraajathaiH Saathakumbha mayaiH jaalaiH ganDharva nagaropamaam laid with garlands of mansions with golden shining pillars, windows made of gold and comparable to the city of devas, prasaadhamaalaavithathaam- with mansions like rows of garlands kaanchanaraajithaiH- with golden shining sThambhaiH-pillars, jaalaiH with Windows SaathakumbhamayaiH- made of gold ganDharvanagaropamam – resembling the city of celestials. 52. sapthabhoumaashta bhoumaiH cha sa dhdharSa Mahaapureem thalaiH sphaatika sankeerNaiH kaarthasvaravibhooshithaiH with seven and eight storied buildings with their top portions decorated with crystals and gold. Hanuman saw the city thus. SaH dhahdharSa- he saw mahaapureem- the great city of Lanka, sapthabhouma ashtaboumaiH- with seven and eight storied buildings thalaiH- with the terraces sphaatikasankeerNaiH- ornamental with crystals kaarthasvaravibhooshithaiH- and decorated with gold. 53. vaidooryamaNi chithraiH cha mukthaajaalaviraajithaiH thalaiH SuSubhire thaani bhavanaanyatha rakshasaam The houses of rakshasas were shining with their top portions inlaid with pearls, and other precious gems. aTha – then thaani- those bhavanaani- the houses rakshasaam- of the rakshasas thalaiH- with their terraces SuSubhire- shone vaidooryamaNichothraiH-with wonderful precious gems, mukthaajaala viraajithaiH- with windows shining with pearls, 54. kaanchanaani vichithraaNi thoraNaani cha rakshasaam lankaam udhyothayaamaasuH sarvathaH samalankrthaam The gateways of the rakshasas were golden and beautiful and illumined the well decorated city of Lanka on all sides. thoraNaani- the gateways rakshasaam- of the (houses) rakshasas vichithraaNi –wonderful kaanchanaani- and golden udhyothyaamaasuH- illuminated sarvathaH- on all sides lankaam- the city of Lanka samalamkrthaam- which was well decorated. 55.achinthyaam adhbuthaakaaraam dhrshtvaa lankaam mahaakapiH aaseeth vishaNNo hrshtaScha vaidhehyaaH dharSanothsukaH The great monkey Hanuman seeing the unthinkable and wonderful lanka , became joyful as well as sad , eager to see Seetha. mahaakapih- the great monkey hanuman dhrshtvaa- on seeing lankaaam – the city of Lankaa adhbuthaakaaraam- wonderful achinthyaaam- and unthinkable aaseeth was vishaNNah- sad ( in thinking about the task on hand) hrshtaH cha – and happy (to see the beautiful city) dharSanothsukaH- eager for the sight vaiedhehyaaH- Seetha. 56. sa paandarodhvidDha vimaana maalineem mahaarha jaamboonadha jaala thoraNaam yaSasvineem raavaNa baahupaalithaam kshapaachariaH bheemabalaiH samaavrthaam He (saw Lanka) which was of great fame, protected by Ravana and surrounded by rakshasas of great might, with rows of tall white mansions, with windows and gateways of great value being made of gold . saH- he (saw) yasasvineem- the famed Lanka raavaNa baahupaalithaam- protected by Ravana samaavrthaam – surrounded by bheemabalaIH- the mighty kshapaacharaiH- rakshasas, kshapaa means night and kshapaachara is the one who moves in the night. paandarodhvidDha vimaana maalineem- with rows of houses tall white mansions mahaarha jaamboonadha jaala thoraNaam- the gateways and windows of great value being made of gold 57.chandhropi saachivyam iva asya kurvan thaaraagaNaiH maDhya gatho viraajan jyothsnaavithaanena vithathya lokam utthishTathe naika sahararaSmiH The moon also, as if to assist him, shone amongst the stars, rising up with many thousand rays flooding the world with his light. chandhraH api- the moon also utthidshtathe- rises naika sahasraraSmih- with more than thousand rays( na eka sahasra rasmi means not one thousand rays, that is more than that) saachivyam kurvan iva- as though to assist him viraajan- shining thaaraagaNamaDhyagataH- amongst the stars (madhyagatha means in the middle of the stars) vithathya- covering lokam- the world jyothsnaavithaanena- with a canopy of light. 58. Sankhaprabham ksheeramrNaala varNam udhgacChamaanam vyavabhaasanmaanam dhadharSa chandhram sa kapipraveeraH poplooyamaanam sarasi iva hamsam That most valiant monkey saw the moon rising up and shining like a conch of the hue of milk and lotus stalk, as a swan swimming in a lake. saH kapipraveeraH- that most valiant monkey, Hanuman dhadharSa- shone chandhram- the moon udhgacChamaanam- rising Sankah prabham- bright like a conch (because if its white colour) ksheeramrNaala varnam – due to his hue like milk and lotus stalk vyavabhaasamaanam- shining hamsam iva – like a swan poplooyamaanam – swimming sarasi – in a lake.
