SrI:Dear Sri Matam SishyAs and abhimAnis:The Taniyan set in Vasanta Tilakam meter for HH the 46th pattam Srimath Azhagiya Singar Is:VedAnta Desika Yateendhra KaDAkshalaBdhaTrayyanta sAramanavadhya guNam BudhAgryamNaarAyaNAdhya Yatidhurya krupAbhshiktamSrIranganAtha YatiSEkharam ASarayAma:Taniyan's Collective Meaning ( SamudhAya artam):We seek as refuge Sriranganatha YatiSEkharar , who is blessed with the quntissence of the three VedAs through the merciful glances of Srimath VedAnta DeSika Yateendhra Mahaa DeSikan celebrated for His blemishless auspicious guNams and for His impeccable scholarship in ubhaya VedAntam that placed Him in the front row of great scholars.We surrender at the lotus feet of SriranganAtha Yateendhra Mahaa DEsikan , who is the object of krupAbhishEkam of great Raaja sanyAsis such as Sri NaarAyaNa Yateendhra Mahaa Desikan and others.

 

The Vasanta Tilakam meter chosen for the Taniyan

 

Sri Matam Sri Kaaryam Swamy mentioned that this Taniyan is set in the lilting Vasanta Tilakam meter . Swamy Desikan has used Vasanta Tlakam meter for 266 of the 862 slOkams of the 28 StOtrams that He has blessed us with . Swamy Desikan has used

this meter in 12 of the 28 StOtrams that He has bequeathed to us . The entire SaraNagathy Dheepikai , most of Sri DehaLeesa Stuti , GodhA Stuti and Sri DevanAyaka PanchAsath as well as selected slOkams of VeghA Sethu stOtram , KaamAseekAshtakam , GopAla Vimsathy , BhU Stuti , NyASa Tilakam , Dayaa Satakam , Sri VaradarAja PanchAsath and YatirAja Saptati have been set in the Vasanta Tilakam meter by Swamy Desikan . This augurs well for the Taniyan of HH the 46th Pattam

Srimath Azhagiya Singar , which starts with smaraNam of the Yatheendhrar who

carried " VedAntha Desika " nAmam .

Comments On selected words of the Taniyan for HH The Chinna Azhagiya Singar1. KrupAbhishiktam stands for Krupayaa abhishiktam . The Parama Krupa of Sri NaarAyaNa Yateendhra Mahaa Desikan drenched Sri RanganAtha Yateendhra Mahaa Desikan like the cool welcome downpour during the hot summer days .It is like the deep dip in the cool pond/Tadaakam in hot Greeshma ruthu .2. abhishiktam: The event is like a Kodai Thirumanjanam . It is not ProkshaNam ( sprinkling ) but abhshEkam . During the Udaka Saantis , the celebrant is drenched with consecrated water poured over His head , whereas the ghOshti members have the sacred water sprinkled over their heads .3. The anvya kramam ( Prose Order) of the First two lines of the Taniyan:

"anavadhya guNam BhudhAgryam VedAntha DeSika Yateendhra KaDAkshalaBdhatrayyanta sAram" . These two lines celebrate the power of the KaruNA KaDaksham of HH the 44 the Pattam MukkUr Azhagiya Singar having the Asrama ThirunAmam of Srimath VedAntha Desika Yateendhrar. His blemishless ananta kalyANa GuNams and His VedAntic Scholarship that placed Him in the front row of Mahaa VidvAns are saluted here . Srimath Azhagiya Singar is the SamASrayaNa /BharanyAsa AchAryan for the chinna Azhagiya Singar , SriranganAtha Yateendhra Mahaa Desikan .4. The first two lines of the Taniyan for HH the 46th pattam Azhagiya Singar are echos from HH the 26th Pattam , Thirukkudantai Azhagiya Singar ( HH Sri Ranganatha Yateendhra Mahaa Desikan) . The two lines in the Thirukkudanthai Azahgiya Singar's Taniyan echoing the thoughts behind " KaDaksha laBdha Trayyanta sAram" are:" samprEkshitam KaruNayaa ParipoorNaBhOdham SriranganAtha YatiSEkharam ASrayaama:"5) The fourth Paadham of the Taniyans of both the Azhagiya Singars ( HH the 26th and HH the 46th) are identical : " SriranganAtha YatiSEkharam ASrayAma:" HH the 26th pattam reigned from 1811 C.E to 1828 C.E. This echo is now across 198 years .6) Another Srimath Azhagiya Singar , HH the 40th Pattam Srimath Kaarukkuruchi Azhagiya Singar's Taniyan has a paasage that echos with the section " NaarAyaNAdhya Yatidhurya krupAbhishiktam " . That passage from Srimath Kaarukkurichi Azhagiya Singar , SriranganAtha SaThakOpa Yateendhra Mahaa Desikan is : " Sri RanganAtha Yatidhurya Krupaika-pAtram".7) Srimath InjimEdu Azhagiya Singar of the 44th Pattam had the Asrama Naamam of Sriranga SaThakOpa Yatheendhra Mahaa Desikan. His Taniyan houses the word of " BhudhAgrEsaram " , which echos with "BudhAgryam " chosen for the Taniyan of HH the 46th pattam Srimath Azhagiya Singar .

 

8) The Taniyan of the 27th Azhagiya Singar has passages that are sources of inspiration for the

section : " VedAntha yatisEkhara laBdha BhOdham Trayyanta sAram " . The passages from the Taniyan of HH the 27th pattam Srimath Azhagiya Singar are :

 

" SrI SrInivAsa YatisEkhara laBdha BhOdam

SrI RanganAtha Yatidhurya padhAbhjabrungam ".

 

adiyEn would like to conclude this SvAchArya anusandhAnam with some general comments on the common thread that runs through the AchArya MaNI Maalai of Sri Matam . That divine thread is SrI Lakshmi Nrisimhan . The AchArya ratnams are

united together in an unbroken succession in the spirit of GeethAchAryan's description: " sUtrE MaNigaNaa iva ".

 

Our SrI Matam AchAryAs are blessed with Sri NrisimhAnupravEsam . They are selected by Him to become the Sevakars of His dhivya PaadhukAs . They are for us

"walking NrisimhAs" ( NadamAdum NarasimharhaL) . Many had Sri Nrisimha SaakshAthkArams and had ripe mantra siddhis . One of them , Sri Shashta ParAnkusa Yahteendhra Desikan is peforming even today NityArAdhanam for

Sri Nrisimhan after entering into a cave in Ahobilam some 496 years ago.

The Azhagiya Singars converse with their AarAdhana Moorthy , Lord Narasimhan and go on sanchAram from village to village following His command for Sishya ujjeevanam through the adminstration of SamAsrayaNam, SaraNagathy blessings and Grantha KaalakshEpams .

Traya Saaram , AchArya RaamAnujA's Geethaa BhAshyam and the SrI Sookti of

Bhagavath Vishayam of Thirukkuruhai PirAn PiLLAn . Our Azhagiya Singars impart this divine knowledge linked to the above Grantha ChAtushtyam to sishyAs thirsting for such knowledge and thus become kruta KrutyAs . The sishyAs blessed by the AchAryAs display sincere krutajn~atai for these unique anugrahams and serve their AchAryaas in every way . In this age old tradition has come the Veda Ratnam Rg Veda GhanapAdi , Sri Thirukkudanthai RangarAjAcchAr Swamy and has now recieved Kaashyam and TridhaNDam from HH the 45th Pattam Azhagiya Singar and has taken on the Aasrama ThirunAmam of Sri RanganAtha Yatheendhra Mahaa Desikan .
