anaaDhrshyam athikramya mahaabalaH

 

thrikootaSikhare lankaam sThithaam svasTho

dhdharsa saH

 

The great mighty

Hanuman, crossing the ocean which is

difficult to cross and quite fit, saw Lanka on the top of the thrikoota

mountain.

 

sah mahaabalaH- The great mighty Hanuman

 

athikramya- crossing

 

saagaram- the ocean

 

anaaDhrshyam- which is difficult to cross

 

svasTho - quite fit, not tired,

 

dhadharsa-saw

 

lankaam- Lanka

 

sThithaam- situated

 

thrikootaSikhare- at the peak of thrikoota mountain

 

 

 

2,thathaH

paadhapamukthena pushpavarsheNa veeryavaan

 

abhivrshtaH sThithaH thathra babhou

pushpamayo yaThaa

 

Then the valiant Hanuman showered with the rain of

flowers shed by the trees stood there shining as if made of flowers.

3.yojanaanaam Satham

Sreemaan theerthvaa api

utthamavikramaH

 

aniSvasan kapiH thathra na glaanim

aDhigacChathi

 

The glorious, most

powerful Hanuman even after crossing 100 yojanas did not get tired and was without getting out of

breath.

 

Sreemaan- the glorious

 

utthamavikramaH kapiH - most powerful Hanuman

 

theerthvaa api- even after crossing

 

yojanaanaam satham- hundred yojanas

 

na aDhigaccahthi-did not get

 

glaanim- fatigue. glani also means decline as in `yadhaayahdaa

hi Dharmasya glaanirbhavathi bhaaratha.'(BG.4.7) where the Lord said that

he will create Himself whenever there is decline of Dharma.

 

aniSvasan- being without exhaustion. niSvasan is sighing with exhaustion.

 

 

4. Sathaanyaham

yojanaanaam krameyam subahoonyapi

 

kim punaH saagarasyaantham

samkhyaathamsathayojanam

 

( as though saying) "I

will cross many more hundred yojanas. What indeed is the end of the sea measuring only 100

yojanas."

 

aham -I

 

krameyam- will cross

 

subahooni- many more

 

sathaani- hundreds

 

yojanaaanaam- of yojanas

 

kim punah – what indeed

 

sagarasya antham – the end of the sea

 

sankhyaatham – measuring , sankhya means number

 

sathayojanam- 100yojanas

 

5.sa thu veeryavathaam SreshTaH

plavathaam api chotthamaH

 

jagaama vegavaan lankaam langhayithvaa

mahodhaDhim

 

That best among the

valiant and also the supreme among monkeys went to Lanka crossing the great

ocean.

 

Sa veeryathamam- That best among the valiant

 

SreshTaH plavathaam api

chotthamaH- also the best among monkeys

 

jagaama- went

 

vegavaan- having speed

 

lankaam-to Lanka

 

langhayithvaa- after crossing

 

mahodhDhim – the great sea.

 

6.saadhvalaani cha neelaani ganDhavanthi

vanaani cha

 

gaNdavanthi cha maDhyena jagaama nagavanthi

cha

 

He went through the middle

of the forests with dark greenmeadows with fragrance and rocks and hills.

 

jagaama- (He) went

 

maDhyena- through the middle of

 

vanaani- forests

 

neelaani- dark (dense)

 

Saadhvalaani- meadows

 

ganDhavanthi- fragrant( with flowers)

 

ganDavanthi- having rocks, gandaSila means big rock and here

ganda is used in that sense

 

nagavanthi cha- and hills

 

7.SailaamScha tharubhiH

Channaan vanaraajeescha

pushpithaah

abhichakraama thejasvee hanoomaan

plavagarshabhaH

 

The glorious Hanuman, the

bull among monkeys, went round the hills covered with flowering trees of rows

of forests.

plagarshabhaH- the bull among monkeys

 

abhichakraama- wandered round

 

Sailaan cha – the hills

 

Channaan – which were covered

 

tharubhiH- with trees

 

vanaraajeeH cha – and the rows of forests
