SrImathE ShaTakOpAya namah:

Dearest Srivaishnavas,

today- Vaikasi visakam is Sri SatakOpa muni- also

called as Maaran, VaguLAbharaNan, Parankusan,

NammAzhwAr. He is Prapanna jana santhAna kootasthar.

While during the birth of mortals like us-the vital

air knows as Shata, engulfs us- and hides the true

dharma manifested dharma bhUtha jnAnam (true knowldge

with which we are endowed).

In case of Sri NamMAzhwAr, AzhwAr (as an infant) with

his hoonkaram overpowered the vital air (ShaTa) and

thus called ShaTakOpan or SatAri - [even today SaTari

adorns and represents the Lord's Lotus feet even in

the temples and are placed on our heads.

NammAzhwAr is also called Kulapathi- the founder seer

of Srivaishnava kulam. Our Kula pathi is the most

outstanding mystic saint both in terms of his

extensive composition of the hymns and the distinct

contribution he has made to Srivaishnava philosophy.

He is held in the highest position by Acharyas and

Srivaishnavas. he is in our Acharya paramapara - the

position which only one Azhwar has.

The four works of his are held in highest esteem by

Srivaishnava Acharyas. His four works are supposed to

represent the four Vedas; also his Thiruvaymozhi

represents the saareeraka saasthram; His

Thiruvaaymozhi is the elabaoration of Dwaya mantra. It

is drAvid Veda saagaram- ocean of Tamil Vedas-

mentioning the Upanishd truths in crystal clear Tamil

language. Vedantha Desikan composed two works on the

glories of this Dramida Upanishad (Tamil upanishad);

his two works are: Dramidopanishad saara,

Dramidopanishad taatparya rathnAvaLi giving the

commentary like purport of this greatest verses as

related to bhagavath kalyANa gunAs.

NammAzhwAr is also called the angi of the other AzhwAr

who are considered to be his angas (parts):

There is very famous sloka on NamMAzhwAr written by

Sri Alavandhar (part of SthOthra Rathnam)

mAthA pithA yuvatayas tanayA vibhUthis-

sarvam yathEva niyamEna madhanvayAnAm

Aadhayasya Na: KulapathEr VakuLAbhirAmam

Srimath Tadhangri yugaLam praNamAmi MoordhnA --

SthOthra Rathnam of AaLavandhAr: SlOkam 5:

For those poorvAchAryAs , who went before us and all

the Sri VaishNavAs coming after us- Swamy NammAzhwAr

has been and will be the nourishing Mother, protecting

Father, acts of comforting wife (s), loving children

and sakala sowbhAgya Isvaryam. He is everything to us.

[Remember Sri MAdhurakavi AzhwAr's - annaiaay

atthanaay ennai ANdidum thanmaiyaan SaTakOpan en

nambhiyE.]

To that great AchAryan and the head of the Prapanna

Kulam, who is adorned with the fragrance of Mahizampoo

(VakuLa Pushpa mAlai ) and also the same at his feet,

adiyEn's daNdavath praNAMams are offered. Those

PraNAmams are to His illustrious , pair of holy feet

(nithyOjwala angri Yugam) - [these flowers are also

offered by devotees at SrI SaTakOpan Sannidhi. As they

had enjoyed seeing the mazhizh maalai offered by the

Lord of AzhwAr Thirunagari- being pleased with his

contribution to Srivaishnavam- estbalishing His

Parathvam and spreading fragance of His kalyANa guNAs-

they also offer the same flowers at AzhwAr's feet for

their respect and to pay their obesiance.

eNdhisaiyum aRiya iyambugEn oNthamizh SatakOPan

aruLaiyE.

Sri SatakOpa muni ThiruvadigaLE SaraNam

Regards

Namo Narayana
