Guest guest
Dear Swamin/ Mathusri Adiyen was thinking for the last few weeks to give an article as a "series" to all of you, Swamin/ Mathusri, whether you like it or not After returning from Srirangam ( Pl refer adiyen's previous e-mail given on 6--8--09 about this journey) duly getting the anugraha of Prakrutham Srimath Paravakkottai Andavan and the Krupa of Periya Perumal and Periya Pirattiyar and Sri Chakkraththazvar, this loud thinking has come to a shape now In the beginning of christian era of 13th century, south India ( now called)was in worst condition. The Kingdom of Cholas, Pandyas, Pallavas, Hoysalas, Vijaynagar empire were fighting with each other or in groups, thus weakening the tradition, wealth, health of their citizens.Might ruled. Those against the mighty warriors were massacred The socalled tamil country was divided betweenPallavas and the Pandyas, the river Kaveri being the frontier between them On the death of the king Maravarman Kulasekara PandyanI at Madurai, in the year 1308, his two sons Sundara Pandyan IV (1309---1327)and Vira Pandyan ( 1309---1345) clashed with each for succession and to get the throne Sundara Pandyan with the help of Veerta Ballala III ( Hoysala) of Karnataka( now) succeeded. Since then, an uneasy calm existed between the brothers. Sundara Pandyan increased his military power and drove out Hoysalas , who helped him to get the Kingdom In the year 1311, , Alauddin Khilji ruled Delhi and North India. It was called " Khilji Dynasty".. His favourite slave general was Malik Kafur. Sensing the scattered and weak administration of Pandyas, and the existence of chaotic atmosphere in the northern range of Kaveri river, and on hearing the availability of abundent wealth resources like jewls, diamonds, gold ornaments and even vigrahas in gold in Tamil Country, , Alauddin Khilji sent his slave general to south , on a buccaneering expedition to hunt the treasure in the famous temples of south, but not to expand the empire of DElhi in south. Malik Kafur won the battle against Veera Ballala III( Hoysala) and looted the Hindu temples at Halabidu etc. This sent alarming bellsto Sundara Pandyan Veera BallalaIII sent an emissary to Delhi to meet Alauddin Khilji and a truce was effected through this emissary Veera Virupaksha Ballala, when he told Alauddin Khilji the treasure wealth of Srirangam Madurai etc and offered Hoysalas military assistance to Malik Kafur, as a vengeance to Sundara Pandyan who drove Hoysala after his success Alauddin Khilji directed Malik Kafur to hunt the treasure first at Srirangam temple and loot it and then go to Madurai temple. Mailk Kafur was at that time at Samayapuram . On directions from Delhi, he with his forces in the year 1310--1311, invaded Srirangam , massacred thousands and thousands of Vaishnavites and entered the temple. He looted all the jewels, ornaments, golds and seized them. He did not spare " Namperumal" ( To be continued) Sarvam Sree Hayagreeva preeyathaamDasanUruppattur SoundararajanSrikainkarya Looking for local information?
