Guest guest Posted October 6, 2005 Report Share Posted October 6, 2005 SrI: SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah: Dearest all, Let us continue to enjoy Thirumangai AzhwAr’s Periya Thirumozhi 1.8.2 kalayaami kalidhvamsam kavim lOkadhivaakaram yaSya kObi: prakaaSaabir aavidhyam niHatham thama: I meditate on the Poet, who is like the Sun for the whole world, to destroy the darkness of ignorance (a~jnAnam) with his word and who destroys the Kali dhOsham. palliyaavadhupaaRkadalarangkam irangkavanpEymulai, piLLaiyaayuyiruNdavenNdhai piraanavanperugumidam, veLLiyaan kariyaan maNinNiRavaNNanenReNNi, nNaadoRum theLLiyaarvaNangkummalai thiruvEngkadamadainNeNYchamE! 1.8.2 KaNNan- the One who sucked the poisonous breast and sucked puthnai’s life making her cry with pain and die; He is in a reclining posture at Thiruvara~ngam (Srirangam) and ThiruppARkadal. He has grown at ThiruvEmkatam (ThirumalA); The realised sages (j~nAnis) have described Him and praised calling Him daily as " veLLiyaan (Silvery Lord!), Kariyaan (Dark hued Beauty!), Neela MaNivaNNan (Blue hued Emerald like Beauty!). Such Greatest Most Beautiful Sowlabhyan is here at ThiruvEmkatam. Oh mind! Go and reach this sthalam. (Here AzhwAr says " piLLaiyaay uyiruNda enthai piraan avan perugum idam " - means: My Father- My Lord- The One who sucked the life as an infant KaNNan- is growing here (at ThirumalA!) Periya vaacchaan PiLLai says " thottil piLLai pEy uyiruNda pinbhu niRka kaRRadhu Thirumalaiyil " means: The child that was put in the cradle, after sucking the rAkshasi’s life, has learnt to stand only at ThirumalA. " - What an anubhavam) veLLiyaan- White coloured Lord- durin thrEthA yugam Kariyaan- dark coloured during Kaliyugam mani niRavaNNan- Blue hued Lord during Dwapara yugam thrEtha yuga- people were of mostly sattva guNA and hence prayed to the Lord to show Himself in white colour. Dark colour- in Kaliyuga- we [with mostly of thamasic guNA- darkness] never pray to Him for showing himself [as we are running amuck after material pursuits] and hence He shows Himself in original form which is natural to Him i.e. dark colour. Kutti KaNNan also [it is enjoyed by Poorvacharyars] sucks only the milk and incidentally her life is also sucked in the meanwhile. paLLiyaavadhu- Reclining in Milky ocean- when AzhwAr mentions that, he is reminded of the Kutti KaNNan lying down in the cradle, and then he is also reminded of Thiruvarangam Lord Ranganathan. Hence all three forms are referred to in the first line. KRISHNAAYA VAASUDEVAAYA DEVAKI NANDHANAAYA CHA NANDHAGOPA-KUMAARAAYA GOVINDHAAYA NAMO NAMA: Similar enjoyment has been made in Gopala Vimsathy by Swami Nigamantha Mahadesikan aamnAyagandhI rudita sphUritAdharoshTam AsrAvilekshaNamanukshaNa mandahAsam | gopAlaDimbhavapuSam kuhanAjananyA: prANasthanandayAmivaimi param pumAmsam || I visualize and revere Sri Gopala as the Supreme Lord, who took the form of the child born in the cowherd family. He was not an ordinary baby. As he feigned fear at the sight of the approaching evil Puthana, he alternately cried and smiled. As He cries, his upper and lower lips quiver from the exertion. At that time, his sweet breath carries the fragrance of the Vedas. He also smiled in between his crying spells. His smile was over the thought of what he planned to do next with the deceitful Puthana. He not only helped himself to the poisonous milk from her breast, but also sucked her life through the very same act of responding to her cunning invitation to breast-feed him. He drank at one swoop Puthanai's milk and her life force and blessed her this way. This certainly is no ordinary child!
