The death toll, human suffering and damage to property are still being fully assessed. Currently available reports put the death toll in India at nearly 7300. However, given the fact that many thousands are reported missing in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and another 1000 in Andhra Pradesh, the toll could climb significantly. Tamil Nadu, with nearly 5,200 reported dead, has suffered the most. In this time of great need we should do all we can to support financially the relief and reconstruction efforts that are going on and will go on for some time to come. Hence, we have decided to solicit tax deductible contributions from Mutt shishyas, abhimanis and their relatives and friends. We will distribute the collections on behalf of Srimad Azhagiyasingar to the appropriate organization in India.
