Dear Bhagavathas:

Sri Ahobila Mutt USA is pleased to announce that we have received nombu saradu

for the upcoming maasi (kaaradaiya) nOmbu after being placed at the lotus feet

of Sri Lakshmi Nrusimhar and blessed personally by Srimad Azhagiyasingar.

We requested the saradu just a day before Srimad Azhagiyasingar was set to leave

on sancharam from Selayur, Chennai, and in spite of the busy preparations for

sancharam, we were blessed with the saradu and was able to get it here on time.

We would like to thank a number of people involved in initiating the idea,

contacting matam and receiving the saradu and bringing them here.

The actual date of the nombu is on 13th of March this year. Since the start of

panguni month is around 9:59 EST, it should be worn before sunset on that day.

We are planning to send this by USPS mail to interested devotees over the course

of this week and the next. If you are interested in receving the saradu, please

send your name and address to Smt. Vimala Rajaji at vimalarajaji.

Please let us know ASAP since there is only a limited number of saradu and we

plan to distribute on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Significance of Karadaiya Nombu:

Karadaiya Nonbu, is celebrated at the conjunction of the Tamil months Masi and

Panguni. Savithri won a great battle over Yama, not by arms or ammunitions but

by her clever arguments to regain her husband's life. So, following the

tradition, Karadaiya Nonbu is celebrated or rather observed every year to

remember this day and women worship their Kula deyvam with the same belief as

Savithri to protect their mangalyam. Normally the Nonbu is observed just before

the onset of Panguni, when the last few hours of Masi are left.
