Pearls from the poems SS-51 dESikan pORRa teruLumvai rAkkiyamum * kAsiniyil anjiRagAik kArimARan – tEsuDan * kaLLamatap pAmbugaLaik kAindAr munimagizha * puLLaraiya nAyazhittu puRRu. sVami dESikan admired the untiring wisdom and vairAgyam of nammAzhvAr. In this pAsuram, AzhvAr is conceived as the divine bird GaruDan, on whom svAmi dESikan has composed many stOtrams. GaruDan took an incarnation to contain indran et al, who did apachAram to Rshis. Valakilya Rshi was very happy on this accomplishment of GaruDan. Similarly, nammAzhvAr as a garuDan, destroyed all the cobras of paramatam, thoroughly. This made Rshis vyAsar, bOdhAyanar et al very happy. SS-52 puRRuvAL meekimuni pUvanAl mAlaruLaip * peRRu teruLAl perumaiyai – uRRirAma * mAkkAdai seidadupOl mARanaruL mAlteruLAl * sAkAntam seidAr tamizh. With bhagavat Samkalpam, chaturmukha brahmA turned up in front of vAlmeeki muni, who appeared from a snake's mound. This muni acquired the knowledge and skill for composing poems and then started to sing SrImath rAmAyaNam exactly as happened. Similarly, nammAzhvAr was blessed directly by perumAL with untiring wisdom to compose tamizh prabhandams, which would carry the entire meaning of vEdAntam. Pearls from the poems: Our Acharya paramparai has a direct link to vyAsa-bodhAyanar et al, as our AchAryar, nammAzhvAr has done exactly as per the tiru-uLLam of these Rshis.
