Descend on my peaks and rest as you please. vaanarotthama- oh best of monkeys, thvam krthavaan- you have done karma- work dhushkaram which is difficult to do. nipathya - descending mamasrngeshu- on my peaks viSramasva- rest yaThaa sukham- as you please 112. raaghavasya kule jaathaiH udhaDhiH parivarDhithaH sa thvaam raamahithe yuktham prathyarchayathi saagaraH The sea , which was grown by the clan of Rama wants to honour you who is involved in the work of Rama. udhaDhiH- the sea parivarDhithaH- was grown kule jaathaiH- by the clan raaghavasya – of Rama. saH -that ocean thvaam prathyarchayathi- respects you in return , raamahithe yuktham – who is involved in helping Rama. 113. krthe cha prathikarthavyam esha DharmaH sanaathanaH so ayam thathprathikaaraaThee thvatthaH sammaanam arhathi A good deed done must be returned.This is the ancient law.Therefore the ocean who wants to return the help done deserves to be considered by you. Krthe- when something (good ) is done Prthikarthavyam cha – it should also be returned. Esha –this is DharmaH-the rule sanaathanaH- of ancient times( according to vedfas and sasthras) saH ayam – he who is here ( saH means he and ayam means this person. It means that the ocean , saH who was helped then is ayam the one here.) thath prathikaaraarThee- one who wishes to return that help, arhathi – deserves sammaanam- respect thvatthaH – from you, meaning you have to respect his wish. 114. thvannimittham anena aham bahumaanaath prachodhithaH yojanaanaam Satham cha api kapiH esha kham aapluthaH 115. Thava saanushu viSraanthaH Sesham prakramathaam ithi thishTa thvam hariSaardhoola mayi viSramya gamyathaam I have been persuaded by him for the sake of honouring you. "This monkey has reached the sky and goes for 100 yojanas.Let him rest on your slopes and then continue the remaining journey." Oh tiger among monkeys, may you stay and rest on me and go. .. aham-I prachodhithaH- persuaded thvannimittham – for your sake anena- by him bahumaanaath- out of respect for you. "esha kapiH- this monkey aapluthaH- reached kham – the sky, yojanaanaam Satham cha api- for (the journey of ) 100 yojanas.(cha api is for emphasis.) viSraanthaH- resting thava saanushu- on your slopes prakramathaam – let him go on Sesham – the rest (of the journey.) thvam thishTa –you stay hariSaardhoola- oh tiger among monkeys, gamyathaam – may you go viSramya – after resting mayi- on me. 116. thath idham ganDhavath svaadhu kandhamoolaphalam bahu thath aasvaadhya hariSreshTa viSramya SvaH gamishyasi There are multitudes of fruits and roots fragrant and sweet here.After eating them , oh best of the monkeys, rest and go tomorrow. Thath idham bahu- there are many ganDhavath- fragrant svaadhu – sweet kandhamoola phalam- roots and fruits thath aasvaadhya- after eating that viSramaya – and resting gamishyasi you will go SvaH tomorrow. 117. asmaakam api sambanDhaH kapimukhya thvayaa asthi vai prkhyaaThaH thrishu lokeshu mahaaguNa parigrahaH Oh the prominent of monkeys, there is also a connection with you of a great value for us which is known in all the three worlds . Kapimukhya- Oh prominent of monkeys, sambanDhaH asthi- there is connection asmaakam api– for us too thvayaa saha – with you. mahaaguna parigrahaH – which is based on great value prkhyaathaa- and wellknown thrishu lokeshu- in the three worlds. 118. vegavanthaH plavanthaH ye plavagaa maaruthaathmaja theshaam mukhyathamam manye thvaam aham kapikunjara Oh son of Vayu, who is an elephant among monkeys, in my opinion you are the most prominent of those monkeys who are fast moving and capable of flying. maaruthaathmaja- son , athmaja, of Vayu, Maarutha. kapi kunjara- elephant, kunjara, among monkeys, kapi aham manye-I consider, thvam ,you , mukhyaH -as prominent theshaam- among those plavagaaH – monkeys ye –who plavanthaH – are flying vegavanthaH- fast 119.athiThiH kila poojaarhaH praakrtho pi vijaanathaa Dharmam jijnaasamaanena kim punar thvaadhrso mahaan By one who wants to know and by one who knows Dharma the guest, even if ordinary, deserved to be honoured. What else could be for a great person like you. Jijnaasamaanena- on who wishes to know Vijaanathaa- one who knows Dharmam- dharma, athiThiH – the guest praakrtho api- even if he is a common man poojaarhaH- deserve sto be worshipped. Kim punaH what more is there (to be said ) Mahaan-( in the case of ) a great person thvaadhrSo – such as you. 120. thvam hi dhevavarishTasya maaruthasya mahaathmanaH puthraH thasya eva vegena sadhrSaH kapikunjara You are the son of great Vayu, the best among the devas, oh the elephant among monkeys, and you are equal to him in speed also. thvam – you puthraH –the son maaruthasya- of Vayu , the wind god, mahaathmanaH- the great dhevavarishtasya- the best among devas kapikunjara- oh elephant among monkeys, sadhrSaH – (you) are equal thasya eva- to him only vegena – in speed. 121. poojithe thvayi Dharmajna poojaam praapnothi maaruthaH thasmaath thvam poojaneeyo me SrNu chaapi athra kaaraNam When you are worshipped , Vayu will receive the worship too (through you). Therefore you deserve to be worshipped by me and hear the reason for it. poojithe thvayi- when you are honoured. ( example of sathi sapthami rule. Used in place of yadhaa thadhaa avoiding them as such by putting the subject and the action in sapthami vibakthi, seventh case) maaruthaH- Vayu, the god of wind praapnothi- gets poojaam –worship. thasmaath – therefore thvam –you poojaneeyaH – worshipful me – for me. Cha – and SruNu- hear api -also kaaraNam- the reason athra – in this context. 122. poorvam krthayuge thaatha parvathaaH pakshiNaH abhavam the abhijagmuH dhiSaH sarvaaH garudaanilaveginaH Earlier in Krthayuga the mountains had wings.They used to go to all directions with the speed of Garuda and the wind. Thaatha- son, Poorvam- earlier Krthayuge- in the krthayuga parvathaaH- mountains abhavam –were pakshiNaH- having wings the –they abhijagmuH – traveled towards or reached sarvaaH dhiSaH – all directions garudaanila veginaH- being fast like Garuda or the wind. 123. thathaH theshu prayaatheshu dhevasanghaaH saharshibhiH bhoothaani cha bhayam jagmuH theshaam pathanaSankayaa From then when they used to travel, the devas, along with rshis and all beings became afraid of their falling down. thathaH –from that time theshu prayeetheshu- whenever they travelled ( example of the rule ofsathi sapthami, in the sense of yadha, thadha or yadhi, tharhi) dhevasanghaaH – the groups of devas, saha rshibhih- along with the sages, bhoothaani cha- and all beings bhayam jagmuH- got afraid pathanaSankayaa- fearing the falling theshaam- of them 124. thathaH kruddhaH sahasraakshaH parvathaanaam SathakrathuH pakshaan chichChedha vajreNa thathra thathra sahasraSaH Indra ,who had thousand eyes, getting angry from that ,cut off their wings in thousands then and there. sahasraakshaH- the thousand eyed Indra, SathakrathuH, who is also known as Sathakrathu, krudDhaH- becoming angry thathaH – from that chicChedha –cut off pakshaan – the wings parvathaanaam- of the mountains sahasrasah – in thousands thathra thathra- then and there vajreNa – with his vajrayudha. Sahasraakasha and Saythakrathu are the epithets of Indra. Sahasraaksha means one with thousand eyes, and refers to the Ahalya episode in which Indra was cursed by sage Gouthama, for seducing Ahalya , his wife in his absence, to possess thousand eyes. Sathakrathu means hundred sacrifices and refers to Indra as the one who performs a hundred Asvamedha sacrifices is entitkes to become Indra. 125. sa maam upagathaH krudDhaH vajram udhyamya dhevaraat thatho aham sahasaa kshipthaH Svasanena mahaathmanaa That Indra came towards me with raised vajrayudha and then I was thrown away quickly by the great Vayu. Sa dhevaraat- that Indra, krudDhaH –angered maam upagathaH- approached me udhyamya- raising vajram- vajrauyudha thathaH -then aham kshipthaH- I was thrown sahasaa- quickly mahaathmanaa- by the great Svasanena- the wind god Vayu. 126. asmin lavaNa thoye cha prakshipthaH plavagotthama gupthapakshasamgraScha thava pithraa abhirakshithaH Being thrown into this salty ocean, oh the best of monkeys, with all my wings saved , I was protected by your father. Plavagotthma- oh the best among monkeys, prakshipthaH- being thrown asmin lavaNathoye- in this salty ocean, guptha paksha samagraH cha- and with all my wings in tact abhirakshithaH-I was protected thava pithraa- by your father 127.thatho aham maanayaami thvaam maanyo asi mama maaruthe thvayaa me hyesha sambanDhaH kapimukhya mahaaguNaH Therefore I am honouring you, Maruthi. You are honourable to me.This is the connection of great merit with you , Oh prominent among monkeys. thathaH- therefore aham –I maanayaami- honour, (maan- to honour0 thvaam –you maanyo asi- you are honourable mama- for me maaruthe- Oh Maaruthi esha- this sambanDhaH- is the connection mahaaguNaH- of great quality thvayaa – with you me- of me. Kapimukhya- oh prominent of monkeys. 128.asminnevam gathe kaarye saagarasya mamaiva cha preethim preethamanaaH karthum thvam arhasi mahaakape Oh great monkey in this matter that transpired thus, regarding the ocean and myself, you should make us happy with a glad heart. mahaakape- oh great monkey, asmin kaarye – in this matter gathe evam- that went on thus saagarasya- of the ocean mamaiva cha -of me also preethamanaaH- with pleased heart thvam arhasi- you are fit (meaning you should) preethim karthum- to do what is pleasing to us 129. Sramam mokshaya poojaam cha grhaaNa kapisatthama preethim cha bahumanyasya preeto asmi thava dharSanaath Oh the best of monkeys, relieve your fatigue and also accept our worship and respect our love. I am happy by seeing you. kapisatthama- Oh the best of monkeys, mokshaya – relieve Sramam- the fatigue grhaaNa cha – and accept poojaam – the worship. bahumanyasva cha -and respect preethim- love preetho asmi-I am pleased thava dharsanaath- from the sight of you. 130. evam ukthaH kapiSreshTaH tham nagotthamam abraveeth preethosmi krtham aaThithyam manyuresho apaneeyathaam The best among monkeys being told thus spoke to the mountin thus: I am pleased. The hospitality has been done. This expression of anger be ignored. kapiSreshTaH- the best among monkeys, Hanuman, evam ukthaH- being told thus, abraveeth- spoke tham nagotthamam- to the best of mountains, Mainaka.( the verbs meaning to go and to speak takes the object in accusative case.) Preetho asmi- I am pleased aathiTHyam- hospitality krtham – has been done (by you), meaning "I am already honoured by you by speaking thus.") manyuH eshaH- this expression of anger, (by ushing him down) apaneeyathaam- may be igni ored. Apaneeyathaam actually means let it be removed but here the meaning of let it be ignored seems mor appropriate. 131. thvarathe kaaryakaalo me ahaschaapi athivarthathe prathijnaa cha mayaa dhatthaa na sThaathvayam iha antharaa The time for my deed is running out .The day is also going past.. Word has been given by me that I should not stay midway. me kaaryakaalaH- The time for my deed thvrathe- means speeds here it can be interpreted as runningout. ahaH api –the day also athivarththe- is going past. athivarthathe means exceeding. prathijna word or promise mayaa dhatthaa- has been given by me. na sThaathavyam- that not to stay iha antharaa- here in the middle. antharaa means in between 132. ithukthvaa paaNinaa Sailam aalambya haripungavaH jagaama aakaasam aaviSya veeryavaan prahasan iva Saying thus the bull among monkeys, who is valiant, touching the mountain entered the sky went on with a smile. Ithi ukthvaa-saying thus, haripungavaH- the bull among monkeys, Hanuman, veeryavaan- the valiant, aalambya- touching Sailam –the mountain jagaama- went on prahasan iva- with a smile. Prahasan means laughing the particle iva is added indicating that as though laughing meaning a smile. aaviSya – entering aakaasam- the sky. 133. sa parvathasamudhraabhyaam bahumaanaadh avekshithaH poojithaScha upapannabhiH aaSeebhiH anilaathmajaH The son of Vayu was perceived with respect and worshipped with suitable blessings by the ocean and the mountain . anilaathmajaH- the son of Vayu(anila), Hanuman avekshithaH- seen bahumaanaath- with reverence poojithaH cha- and was worshipped upapannaabhiH with appropriate aaSeebhih- blessings parvathasamudhraabhyaam- by the mountain and the ocean.
