Dear Srivaishnavas,

pAsuram (24)

veLLaneer paranthu pAyum

viripozhi larangam thannuL,

kaLvanAr kiDantha vARum

kamalanan mukamum kaNdu

uLLamE! valiyai pOlum

oruvanen RuNara mAttAy,

kaLLamE kAthal seythun

kaLLaththE kazhikkin RAyE!

Although the Lord is not forgettable, samsAris still engage themselves in

other activities and do not reciprocate the abundant love that the Lord

showers on them.

(veLLaneer paranthu pAyum viripozhil) : River Kaveri originating in Sahya

mountain, flows with so much of water and love amidst the gardens of

srirangam. She has abundant love on the Lord, which is explicit when she

reaches Srirangam. She spreads around SriranganAthan to embrace Him fully.

(arangam thannuL kaLvanAr) : samsAris treat Atmavastu as their property. As

it belongs only to the Lord, this is a theft. 'uLLaththAl uLLalum theethE

piRan poruLaik kaLLaththAl kaLvEm enal', says tirukkuraL. Even to think of

the Lord's belongings as our property is a theft. As all samsAris steal the

Atmavastu (their soul), the Lord has come down to 'steal' this thought of

'independency' from them. If He tells them that He has come down to destroy

their ahnkAra mamakAram, they would fight with Him as happened in Rama,

Krishna avatArams. So, He does this stealing even without their knowing it.

(kiDantha ARu) : He does not steal the hearts of sansAris using His kalyANa

gunAs or beauty of His divine limbs. He does it just by this reclining

posture.

(kamalanan mukam) : His divine face may be compared to the bloom,

reddishness, fragrance and coolness of lotus flower. But the face is more

than lotus flower in that the face is auspicious in all aspects at all

times, while the lotus is subject to many defects. The adjective 'nal'

differentiates the divinity of the tirumukhamandalam of the Lord from the

earthly lotus. His face is Suddhasatvam (no tinge of the material modes of

nature); jyOtirmayam; does not shrink at any time & only His face is the

eternally cool face in samsAram and so on.

(kaNdu uLLamE! valiyai pOlum) : Even after seeing such a tirukkOlam and

tirumukha mandalam, there is no change in the hearts of people. It is so

solid!

(oruvanen RuNara mAttAy) : Even after witnessing the great love of kAviri;

the gorgeous lolling posture of the Lord and His divine face, the heart has

not realized that He is without a second (advitIya).

(kaLLamE kAthal seythu) : As the routines of samsAram continue, the love

shown towards the Lord now seems to be untrue.

(kaLLaththE kazhikkin RAyE!) : Even after this paramabhAgyam of being in the

proximity of Sriranganatha, the manas is not involving in bhagavat vishayam

but continues with its past behaviors.

sAram of the pAsuram : The Lord shows abundant love. The river kAviri flows

around Srirangan with extraordinary love. But samsAris' manas is still

involving in worldly affairs, without reciprocating the affection.
