Guest guest
SrI: Dear Srivaishnavas, pAsuram (25) kuLiththumoon Ranalai yOmpum kuRikoLan thaNamai thannai, oLiththiTTE nenka Nillai ninkaNum baththa nallEn, kaLippathen koNDu nambI! kaDalvaNNA! kathaRu kinREn, aLiththenak karuLsey kaNDAy arangamaa nagaru LAnE! Azhwar was pitying for the samsAris who do not reciprocate the love of the Lord but only show kapaTa bhakti (half-hearted devotion). When the Lord says that they will be able to follow one of the karma, gnAna, bhakti yOgA-s and there is nothing to worry, Azhwar replies that even a simple rite is very difficult to follow strictly and how these people can undertake these yOgA-s. (kuLiththumoon Ranalai yOmpum) : There are many types of snAnam (bathing) such as nityasnAnam, naimittika snAnam, prAyascitta snAnam etc. One type of snAnam will not represent the other and hence they are all different for different occasions. There are three sacred fires gArhapatyam, AhavanIyam, and dhakshiNAgni which are to be maintained (worshipped) by a brAhmaNa. These are some examples of the many routines that have to be strictly followed even before one starts practicing karmayOgam. (kuRikoLan thaNamai thannai oLiththiTTEn) : Even to upkeep some of these sAmAnya dharmA-s is very difficult for people of three varNams and hence karmayOgam is not relevant to them. (enkaN illai) : As karmayOgam is not relevant, gnAnayOgam is also not relevant too. AtmAvalOkanam (sAkshAtkAram of Atma) is also not possible for them. SrI yamunacharya's stotra ratna verse 'na dharma nishTOmi na ca Atma vEdi na bhaktimAn' is recalled here. Somebody might tell that even if karmayOgam is not possible now, the karmayOga anushTAnam of a previous birth might lead to gnAnayOgam in this birth. But Azhwar says even that is not present. ninkaNum baththa nallEn : As he can not even see his Atma, how can he meditate on the Lord. So, he is not a bhaktimAn also. All three yOgA-s are not relevant to these people. Recall 'nORRa nOnbilEn' and 'kaRavaigaL pinsenRu' pAsurams. (kaLippathen koNDu nambI!) : We do not have credits from any one of these ways. But as You are guNapUrNan, You have to save us. This is similar to the tiruppAvai pAsuram, wherein SrI ANDAL says first 'aRivonRum illAtha Aykulam' which is followed by 'kuRai onRum illAtha gOvindA'. (kaDalvaNNA! kathaRukinREn) : As in previous pAsurams, wherein Azhwar described Him as 'IyappAdaRuththuth thOnRum azhgan' and 'Adaram peruga vaiththa azhagan', here he quotes the beauty of the Lord's form (sea like colour). We are only able to do mangaLASasanam to your beauty. Although we are not worthy in any other ways, we are more interested in getting You. (aLiththenak karuLsey kaNDAy) : Please make us eligible for your grace and grace us. (arangamaa nagaru LAnE!) : Oh my Lord! You have not come down to save blemishless people. You are here only to save people with no credits. There can be no other suitable people than them, as they are looking only at You. (sAram of the pAsuram) : Although we do not have any credits, we depend only on You. We spend our time in enjoying Your divine beauty. You are the warehouse of all virtues. You have to make us eligible for your grace and save us. dAsan
