Svasthika, like svasthik and in a form called varDhamana, (which are all different forms of construction according to silpa sastra.) Suvibhooshithaa- well decorated SarvathaH – in all respects, chithraiH- with designs sithaabhra sadhrsaiH- and like white clouds varDhmaana grhaiH- houses in the form of varDhamana padhmasvasthika samsThithaiHcha api- and also constructed in Padma and svasthika form, - 9. thaam chithramaalyaabharaNaam kapiraajahithamkaraH raaghavaarTham charan Sreemaan dhadharSa cha nanandhacha Hanuman, who was the benefactor of the king of monkeys, Sugriva, saw that City of Lanka which was decoratre4d with wonderful garlands roaming there for the purpose of Rama and was pleased. Sreemaan- the glorious Hanuman kapiraajahithamkaraH- who intended to do good , hithamkara, to Sugreeva, dhadharSa- saw thaam –that city of Lanka, chithramaalyaabharaNaam- decoratd with wonderful garlands,( chithra here means wonderful) charan- moving around raamakaaryaarTham- for the purpose of Rama nanandha cha – and was pleased. 10.bhavanaath bhavanam gacChan dhadharSa pavanaathmajaH vividhaakrthiroopaaNi bhavanaani thathasthathaH Hanuman going from one house to another saw the houses there which were constructed in various designs. pavanaathmajaH –Hanuman, the son of Vayu. gacChan –going pavanaath pavanam- from house to house thathaThathaH= situated therein bhavanaani –the houses vividhakrthiroopaaNi- constructed in various designs. 11. suSraava maDhuram geetham thrisThaanasvarabhooshitham sthreenaam madha samrddhaanaam dhivi cha apsarasaam iva He heard sweet music with notes coming from chest and throat and head) by the women well endowed with pride like the music of the celestial damsels in the sky. suSraava- Hanuman heard madhuram geetham- sweet music thrisThaanasvarabhooshitham –with notes arising from the three places, chest, throat and head. A good music is that which is sung with the sound arising from the chest , reaches the head and comes out of the throat. sthreeNaam – of the women madha samrdDhaanaam- who werequite proud of their skill, iva cha– also like apasarasaam – that of the celestial damsels dhivi- in the heaven. 12. suSraava kaanchee ninadham noopuraaNaam cha Sopaana ninadhaamschaiva bhavaneshu mahaathmanaam aasphotitha ninaadhaamscha kshvelithaamscha thathasthathaH Hanuman heard the sound of the anklets, girdles and the foot steps on the stairs of the great rakshasas and the sound of their beating their shoulders and fierce cries. suSraava- he heard kaancheeninadham- the sound of the girdles (with bells) noopuraaNaam cha nisvanam- the sound of the anklets (with bells inside) soppananinadhaan chaiva- also the sound on the stairs made by the foot steps bhavaneshu – in the houses of mahaathmanaam – great rakshasas (where many people will go up and down and the sound could be heard) aasphotitha ninaadhaan cha – the sound of the rakshasa beating their shoulders in a show of strength thathasthathaH- and here and there kshvelithaan cha- being fierce like the roar of lions (ksvelitha means the roar of lion or war cry) 13. suSraava japathaam thathra manthraan rakshogrheshu vai svaaDhyaayanirathaamschaiva yaathuDhaanaan dhadharSa sah raavaNasthavasamyukthaan garjatho raakshasaan api He heard the chanting of manthras in the house of the rakshasas and saw the raakshasas who were reading the Vedas, those who were praising Ravana and some who were roaring. saH suSraava- he heard thathra raksho grheshu- there in the houses of the rakshasas japathaam – who were chanting manthraan- manthras yaathudhaanaan- and rakshasas svaaDhyaaya nirathaan- studying the Vedas and sastras raavaNa sthava samyukthaan- those who were singing the praise of Ravana raakshasaan api- also the rakshasas garjithaan- roaring In Lanka there were rakshasa who studied and chanted the Vedas as Ravana was well versed in the Vedas but all in the night only, which is prohibited by the sastras, as it was the custom of the rakshasas. There were also some who were singing the praise of Ravana and some who simply roared to show their strength. 14. raajamaargam samaavrthya sThitham rakshobalam mahath dhadharSa maDhyame gulme raakshasasya charaan bahoon He saw the big army which stood all around the royal pathway and also the spies of Ravana in the midst of the crowd dhadharSa- He saw rakshobalam mahath- the great army of rakshasas sThitham– which stood samaavrthya – around raajamaargam- the royal pathway madhyame gulme- in the midst of the crowd of the army (gulma means crowd) chaarraan – the spies raakshasasya- of the rakshasa Ravana.
