Guest guest
SrI : Dear BhakthAs : There are many kinds of Thirumanjanam for the Dhivya Dampathis . 1. Yeka Kalasa Thirumanjanam **************************************** At the simplest level , one does Thirumanjanam with one Kalasam(vessel). Here the invoked Devathai is VaasudEvan . The Thirumanjana dhravyam ( material) is either Milk or SuddhOdhakam ( Pure Water ) from River , well , PushkaraNi or waterfall . 2. Pancha Kalsa Thirumanjanam ****************************************** There is a central Kalasam and there are 4 more Kalasams placed around it . The second kalasam is placed on the Western direction and then one proceeds to place the remaining kalasams in a clockwise manner : Third one is in North , Fourth one in East and the fifth one in Southern direction . The Devathais to be invoked are : VaasudEvan (Center) , VishNu (West) , Madhusoodhanan ( North) , Thrivikraman( East) and Vaamanan ( South ) . The First and Central Kalasam has gems ( Red Coral , Pearl , Diamond , VaidhUryam and Ruby) inside the water .This kalasam is known as RathnOdhaka Kalasam . The second Kalasam has water admixed with ghee, Curd , Milk , Honey , Jaggery and fruit . The third Kalasam has Panchakavyam diluted with water . The Fourth Kalasam has Gold , Silver,Copper , Bronze, Iron placed inside the water . This dhravyam is known as LohOdhakam . The Fifth Klasam has SuddhOdhakam . 3. Nine Kalasam Thirumanjanam ******************************************** We will study this often-used Thirumanjanam in detail in hte next posting . 4. Sixteen Kalsam Thirumanjanam ******************************************** Let us study it in a little more detail . There is a kramam(order) in placement of the 16 kalasams . Each Kalasam has a Devathai to be invoked and worshipped . Each Kalasam has a special dhravyam . The 16 devathais associated with the individual Kalasams are : Kesavan(1) , NaarAyaNan(2) , Maadhavan(3) , VaasudEvan (4)forming the inner set of Four at the center. Kesava kalasam is at North West with Sandal Paste Water . NaarAyaNan is at North East with RathnOdhakam (gems) Maadhavan is at South East and has Ghee and water and VaasudEvan is at South West with UlOkangaL (Metals) & Water . VishNu and Madhusoodhanan form the western flank ( Kalasam 5 & 6) as a duet . Five is on the SW side and 6 is on NW side . These 5 & 6 Kalasams contain Paadhyam (Tulasi, Lotus flower petals , Panic grass, akshathai, VishNuparNee and sandal are added to water ) and arghyam ( white mustard , akshathai , dharbham tips , dry fruits , Yavam , seasame , Jaathi Malli and Sandal are added to the water) . Then one proceeds in a PradakshiNam manner to place the other duets (7 & 8 , 9 & 10 ,11 & 12) ; the singles (13,14, 15 & 16) forming the outtermost flanks . Thirvikraman and Vaamanan form the northern flank (Kalasam 7 & 8). They contain aachamaneeyam water and Panchakavyam water. Achyutha and Ananthan form the Eastern front ( Kalasam 10 & 9 ). Ninth Kalasam has akshadhOdakam ( all kinds of grains & grass); Tenth kalasam has MarjanOdhakam ( Turmeric , tips of dharbham , Soorya Vardhini et al). Purushan and Sathyan stay on the Southern front ( Kalasam 11 & 12) . Kalasam 11 has KashAyam and Kalasam 12 has the essence of dharbham. Sridharan is at the North west corner (Kalasam 13 with Curd ). HrusheekEsan is at the North East corner ( Kalasam 14 with Milk ) . PadmanAbhan is at the South East corner ( Kalasam 15 with Honey ) . DhAmOdharan is at the South West corner (Kalasam 16 with YavOdhakam: Yavam , paddy and Bamboo rice ) . Moorthy AavAhanams , PeetArchanams are done after filling these Kalsams with the prescribed dhravyams for Thirumanjanam . The order of Thirumanjanam is to start with 5 and proceed up to 16 in the ascending order and conclude with 1 to 4 ( the inner most kalasams) . There are also 81 , 108 and 1,000 kalasa Thirumanjanams . There are 17 dhravyams in the 81 Kalasa Thirumanjanam . GandhOdhakam (Vetti vER , ViLAmucchi , Sandal , Saffron , akhil , ghOshtam are added to the water) , warm water kalasam , Aachamana kalasam (contains green camphor , Jaathi Pathri , Cardamom , Lavangam and saffron ) are extras . 17 kalsams of 81 kalasams have dhravyams and the other 64 have SuddhOthakam . It is therefore a complicated organizational set up for higher order kalasa Thirumanjanam . Sahasra Kalasa Thirumanjanam is for the highest uthsavam such as SamprOkshaNam . As referred to earlier , the 9 Kalasa Thirumanjanam is not time consuming and is therefore chosen often . Let us study next the Nava Kalasa Thirumanjanam done as per PaancharAthra Aagamam .
