Guest guest
This is what Dharma Singh Khalsa says in his prologue to his book, Meditation as Medicine. He goes on to say, " many of America's kundalini practitioners have converted to Sikhism because Sikhism is the religion of Yogi Bhajan. " I'm an American practitioner of KunYoga who converted to Sikhism, precisely for this reason - being exposed to Sikhism by hanging out at the ashram and liking what I saw. Perhaps because of semantics I'm having a hard time understanding the sentence I quoted in the subject line. Possibly someone can help me clarify: By saying 'Western Sikhs in America', I wonder if Dharma is referring to American born, non-Indian Sikhs, most of whom {except the younger ones} are converts. That would make sense to me, and correspond with my experience. I'm pretty sure that the majority of Sikhs in the US, in general, do NOT practice Kundalini Yoga. Am I correct? Altho I'd be happy to be wrong, as there are many Indians and some Indian Sikhs who live in my environs! [smile] Appreciate any feed-back, as this " conflation " , if you will, of a religion and a meditative practice, has long interested and confused me.
