Guest guest
Hi all... Uhm... last Monday my house burned down... so... I'm kinda drifting in and out of conscious activity. Everything is like a big cloud that doesn't make sense. I know I'm here to be alive... and I have the stuff I need to be alive... but everything is sad and hurts... and... I'm just... lost inside... and scared... and weak... I've been smoking pot again and a few days ago I took mushrooms again... It's all a lot... I've unglued myself from myself... and yet I'm still here... the friend I'm living with smokes a lot of cigarettes and drinks several times a week. I quit smoking last year and the nicotine cravings are starting to resurface. I want to cry... and he thinks I can help him quit smoking and drinking just by being there, yet he doesn't want to quit... so its like... I'm not even trying either... I'm just... being there... exerting myself (which isn't much) I'm really scared and sad and lost... can anyone offer anything? Thanks
Guest guest
Dear Chad: It often happens that we face our deepest struggle in life and there is someone asking us for help in the middle of our own struggle. There's the test! Am I going to say no and worry about myself? Or am I going to get out of my way to forget about my stuff and help my friend? Have you seen the movie: Peaceful Warrior based on the story by Dan Millman? or heard the audio version of the book? or read the book? That might be a good place to start again. Your house burned down. You're free. Who do you want to be? Where do you want to live? What mark do you want to leave with the world before you die? I have just read two books by psychiatrist Brian Weiss. The first one was written in the early 80's: Many lives, many masters. The sequel was written in 2004: Same soul, many bodies. They are very inspiring books because Brian helps his patients go back to their essence by revisiting past lives and the time between lives in order to help them get over their hurdles. In the second book he also helps them see their future life (lives) in order to see the truth about where they are now. And many change their views after this experience. They change and focus on who they really want to be as they become aware of how selfish their previous views may have been. This is what I have to offer... inspiration... and it often comes by reading others' stories and by helping those in worse shape than ourselves. Many many blessings, Awtar Singh Rochester, NY
Guest guest
Hello Chad, First of all, I'm really sorry about your house. That's a heck of an upheaval and change for someone to have to deal with. Unfortunately, when things go bad in our lives we tend to lapse back into old coping habits. Just see the smoking as a temporary glitch. Taking mushrooms probably isn't a good idea. When you've got things going on in your mind, they tend to make these things come to the surface ten fold( I know, I've been there). The fact that you are unhappy about these tendancies just goes to show that it is just temporary. You'll sort yourself out when you need to. Your friend wants to give up the smoking and drinking, right? Although, you believe he doesn't really want to. I think that if you gave it a shot and showed him that you mean business, it may help him to make a start. Even if it means just cutting down the habits for a while to begin with. You can help each other out. At the end of the day, don't beat yourself up over it. Do you do Kundalini yoga or any type of yoga or meditation? Try to get back into that, if and when you are ready. I hope all works out well for you in the end. Good luck and blessings. Love and Light . x
