question about how to overcome fear

Hello Betin,

There is also a perceived " fear of the unknown " which can stop someone in their

tracks...If they let it. If they allow it to consume them. You have the choice

and the power to either be the consumer, or be consumed by " fear " . Realize that

you have the capacity, power and choice to consume, or get through any

illusional fear.

One example that I draw upon is when the stock market has wild swings. Although

movement in stocks should come from analytics, the wild senseless swings are

often dictated by either greed or fear. When fear is at play, it seems to come

from a fear of the unknown... or " uncertainty " as the market calls it. The stock

market does not like uncertainty because it can not be " quantified " . However,

I've noticed that the market behaves in a more steady fashion when there is

something going on which is defined as " risk " . There is a difference in the

definition of uncertainty and risk. Risk you can quantify. So I've found that

those times when I " ve felt a fear of the unknown, I break it down into chunks of

quantifiable risk by doing things such as research, goals, and planning. Hope

this explanation makes sense...

Another way I have dealt with fear was to work on the first chakra with yogic

sets specificly designed to strengthen and balance the first chakra... *And by

also practicing things in daily life that help me to " stand on my own two feet " .

Planning and doing things by myself and for myself (without the second chakra

related input or feedback from others). An " Its all about me " (first chakra)

perspective for my own personal " survival " . Things such as supporting myself

financially without help or assistance from others. Or as a great first chakra

exercise, I camped by myself overnight way way out in the remote desert with

nobody else around for miles. I either would " survive " or not. Well I survived

that night and I also saw a Mt. Lion which is a symbol of courage for Native

Americans. I faced and got through the scarey alone experience because I

researched the area I was camping in, planned my trip, brought the needed

supplies and shifted the uncertainty of a night alone by myself in the desert,

into quantifiable risk. And then I went and just did it. I " survived " by myself,

because of myself, and therefore strengthened my first chakra and am no longer

fearful of this kind of experience.

The common fear of public speaking can also be dealt with by being well planned

and prepared which shifts from uncertainty to quantifiable risk.

Another fabulous tip comes from Gururattan my wonderful teacher. She has said to

" love the fear " . This opens the perspective to not only accept yourself

completely and fully (even with any illusional fear), but also shifts the energy

to love.

Yes, I've heard about that theory of

fear as a survival tool. However it seems that knowledge only could

very well take the place of fear in such instances. If I *know* a

lion is dangerous, for example, I would also know I should keep away

from it. I wouldn't need to feel fear. Well I'm not sure what I am

saying makes sense, I guess I am just down on fear right now, it just

seems to be an unpleasant, useless emotion that stops me from doing

things.

> If I understand your message correctly, facing your fear is the best

way to deal with it. I think this is right. It takes courage but once

you do what you are afraid of, very often the fear is gone. Mustering

the courage is my challenge right now. Thanks so much for your

message, I find what you write always interesting and helpful.

> Best wishes,
