Guest guest
Sat nam, I have a few questions regarding waking up in the early hours of the morning. First of all, could someone clarify what is Amrit vela. What is the significance of of Amrit vela if it actually means early hours of the morning? Does any other time in the day when you think of God not count as Amrit vela as my understanding was that any time when the thought of the divine comes into your mind becomes Amrit(naam) vela ? Does it also mean that any meditation done outside of Amrit vela does not have the same impact? If you do not meditate at Amrit vela does your progress on the spiritual side not happend as quickly ? What is the minimum hour of sleep your body & mind need to perform normally? I have been struggling since as far as I can remember to wake up in the early hours of the morning but somehow no matter what I cannot seem to do it. I have tried various methods & means to get myself motivated but nothing seems to work. Alarm clocks don't help at all. I have tried prayer & programming my mind the previous night to get myself up but in vain. I try to get to bed early so I have enough hours to sleep to get myself up early. I do not know what it is about myself : Whether it's my physical or psychological buildup that prevents me from doing so. At times when I do manage to do it I feel very sleepy and after the meditation period has finished I want to head for the bed or for the rest of the day land up feeling fuzzy headed and really tired I expect that meditation generate more desire in me to meditate and make me more awake and alert . It sounds like I don't take my meditation seriously but that isn't the case. I really need help with this issue. This is my main roadblock to spiritual progression. If I could get over this , I'm sure I'd make very good progress as the yearning in my heart for moving forward on this path looms large. Is there any technique or remedy (herbs etc) to help this situation. I would love to hear Guru Rattana's and Awtar Singh's views on this too. Guest guest
I used to have the same problem. I could never get up early even though I tried really hard to do that. I had heard that not being able to bounce out of bed early in the morning was the result of a sluggish liver. I take liver support tablets (all herbal) now and it seems to have fixed the problem. Now I can be out of bed at 5:30 in the morning ready to go. Perhaps a simple solution like this would solve your problem. Guest guest
.......another thought just came to me. Make sure you are in bed by 11pm at night. I believe the liver starts detoxing around midnight all the way thought till about 2 in the morning. If you don't go to bed early enough the liver can not clear itself through the night which will make you slow to rise in the morning. Hope that helps. Guest guest
" Waking up is hard to do " ...it reminds me of an old song except I think the words are " breaking up etc.ect " I remember the first time I started to rise early for sadhana...it was when I first moved into an ashram in Tucson....we would all get up at 3am -3:30am. It made for a bunch of tired people until we started to become used to the routine... When I stopped and then started again with a morning practice...I found it easier to choose a time closer to my usual wake up time. Since it was 6am I choose 5am and found it was not enough time to do everything I wanted, but I stuck to it knowing I could have chosen an earlier time....then one day I added another half hour to the sadhana and that was better....then finally I added another half hour a while down the road and that worked. Then the cold shower would also become a factor in the morning process....there are times it just seems way too cold and I remember Yogi Ji telling me how much greater that was preferred over warmer water....that has stuck with me over time...I always hear his voice telling me how great the real cold water was to the other as I shiver and shake off the water and a beautiful flush of blood comes to the surface of my skin! Guest guest
I found using an alarm until my body clock was set a most helpful way to wake up and a cold shower (As YB suggested before sadhanna) also wakes you UP --- Received: Tue, 01 Jan 2008 11:44:11 AM PST Robert Ashton <treezilla Kundaliniyoga Kundalini Yoga Re:Waking difficulties...
