Sat Nam,

Hernia issues are very sensitive as the area of them being around the stomach

can have a big impact on daily life. Having had a Hernia (Umbilical) operation

last year I found the pain tolerable after the operation. There was a big shock

to my body regarding daily routines of Yoga, sitting up, lying down, namely the

basics of any normal life. My yogic practice was put on a back burner for

nearly 3 months. It was a hard time as there was a lot of changes I simply

was'nt used to. Normally I had a ususual high threshold for pain, I could work

very long hours and generally do anything that I asked of my body.

This was a time for change for me especially with regard to work and a whole

outlook on life. Yoga was extremely hard as the basic asanas and kriya's I

could not do. My wife being a doctor was always on hand telling me what I can

and cannot do.

My advice would be to let the hernia heal fully before you put any strain upon

it. This maybe a long process as everyone heals at different paces. Use slow

and long breath techniques that does not overstrain the area where the hernia

is. Also, listen to your body and what signals it gives you when you put it

under certain strain.

Blessings,

Goldie Singh.
