Guest guest
Sat Nam, I have a friend who is suffering from depression and anxiety she has unbalanced hips and walks with the aid of a stroller. Is sat kriya appropriate for a person with this condition? I didn´t sodarshan kriya would be appropriate because of the breath retention. Any advice? -Chris Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Sat Kriya, SoDarshan Kriya AND Kirtan Kriya would all be appropriate. Now what is up for discussion would be how much of each. The answer I think is as much as the person can manage. If three minutes of each is all they can manage then so be it. Start out small ... " Each journey of a thousand miles begins with one small step " ... and allow them to grow at their own pace. Even if these practices must be done sitting in a chair (Both feet flat on the floor, balanced, without sitting against the back of the chair.) that's OK too. Advise your friend to take things slowly and to get into the meditation/kriya allowing the body to regulate but not dominate. They needn't do them all at once but at three different times of the day, whatever they can mange comfortably. Their practice will be their inspiration KartaPurkh S Khalsa Your job is to deal with everything in life with affection, love and kindness. --Yogi Bhajan http://kartapurkhkhalsa.typepad.com/ http://kckundaliniyoga.com http://kartapurkh.smugmug.com/
Guest guest
Chris: Yogi Bhajan said that depression is the result of misalignment in the hips. He has a set to realign the hips and burn away depression. The set is called : A Basic Set and is in the manual Infinity and Me compiled by Harijot Kaur. I don't see why she could not do Sodrashan Chakra Kriya or Sat Kriya. She can just do them sitting in her stroller. Why would breath retention be a problem? Is there something else I need to know about her? Blessings to both of you, Awtar Singh Rochester, NY
Guest guest
Chris: If the concern about breath retention is about her high blood pressure, have her start slow and short meditation periods to check how it affects her. And then have her continue at a pace that works for her. Either increase length with time or rhythm, but not both at once until she is comfortable with what she is doing. Guest guest
> she´s had some valves replaced in her heart. > Chris: I have no experience with valve replacement. I personally would try slow and experience my body to see what I can do and what I can't. She may want to talk to her doctor about it as well in terms of strain that are to be avoid with a valve. Best wishes, Awtar singh
