Guest guest
Hello All, I am new to all of this so................ How exacting are the recommended times for meditation - Began using mantra SA TA NA MA for 11 minutes, but find trying to time steps is more than a little distracting ( 2 minutes out loud, 2 min whisper, 3 silent ..........) I welcome your input. I have used TM in the past, but never have seemed to be able to get much past my mind chatter. I welcome your input. Guest guest
Hello Paul, For years I did Zen Meditation (zazen) with similar results (cannot get past the mind chatter). I too am doing sat a na ma meditation and find that the mantra " anchors " my mind. If looking at the clock is distracting (as I find it and now a new compulsion as well) I am letting go of the times and letting intuition guide me. Guest guest
Marty, How thoughtful of you to respond - I chuckled at yet another " compulsion " . I will take your suggestion and go with the flow - I have also found this mantra to be very settling - what I am picking up is that everyone is pretty much on their own to discover what is personally helpful. Guest guest
Dear Paul, I am new to all of this so................ How exacting are the recommended times for meditation - Began using mantra SA TA NA MA for 11 minutes, but find trying to time steps is more than a little distracting ( 2 minutes out loud, 2 min whisper, 3 silent ..........) * I personally would not practice this meditation without a timer. Look at a clock would definitely be too distracting. I used to have a timer that went off in intervals for the number of minutes you set. It was my most valuable possession. It has since died and Casio does not make them any more. If anyone knows of such a timer I would recommend it for this meditation. MODERATOR: Go to Target or Walmart etc.. in cooking supplies you'll find timers. Get a DUAL timer, one button for each time , you'll use one button four times, for 11 mins-- 2,2,3,2,2 So you only have to look at the timer for a split second. Works for me. You'll probably have to fork over some $$ for something you don't have to look at that runs itself. Then just do the 3 minutes for 4 minutes. You don't have to be exact, exact, but close is good. I welcome your input. I have used TM in the past, but never have seemed to be able to get much past my mind chatter. * You have to get in the neutral channel. Do the mediation facilitators that are in all my manuals, or any other KY set before meditating. It helps access the neutral channel, where there is just silence and space.
