Guest guest
Sat Nam! I just bought a crock pot. Crock pots sold today only have low and high settings. I've made Ghee on the stove top and know to watch carefully for when the milk solids turn brown and then turn off the heat. Using a crock pot, how is it different? Can it overcook the ghee so then the milk solids turn black and/or destroy the ghee? Can it go on endlessly and not harm the ghee? How is that? What setting would I use and for how long to transform 2 or 4 or 8 sticks of butter to ghee? These questions have not been covered in the archives. Thanks! Guest guest
Sat Nam, Crock pots generally have only 2 or 3 settings. Try it on low for a few hours, or even overnight. See what your particular crock pot does. Sometimes the milky solids just stick beautifully to the bottom, but if left too long everything will start to " toast " , and the ghee will get a brownish, rather than a gold, tint. It's still very much useful but I do wonder. Blessings, Dharam Millis, MA Yahara wrote: >Sat Nam! > >I just bought a crock pot. Crock pots sold today only have low and high >settings. Guest guest
Sat Nam. I just bought a crock pot. Can it overcook the ghee so then the milk solids turn black and/or destroy the ghee? * I don't think so. I have left mine on for a day or two on low and it is fine. What setting would I use and for how long to transform 2 or 4 or 8 sticks of butter to ghee? * I would make more than that. * Turn on your crock pot, stick in the butter and see for yourself. It will be fine. Just don't turn it on high for overnight with that little butter. * I use a soup ladel to scoop it out. And I don't use the screen that Atma Kaur mentioned. It might be a good idea, but it could be very messy. Blessings, Guru RAttana :+)

Guest guest
Sat Nam, Thanks for the info. Do I still need to strain the ghee through cheesecloth?
