Guest guest
Sat Nam , We run a nonprofit teaching yoga to children 18 months to high school. I co teach with Lynnette Moore. I highly recommend a co-teacher when teaching to children We start all our classes with ground rules. We decide the ground rules with a class then write them down and try to read them before each class. We definately have them posted in the front of the class. For older kids we have them sign a contract with certain ground rules on it. I am a Montessori teacher and Maria Montessori said " When the children know the ground rules then they are free to learn " Another important factor is to insist that the homeroom teacher be present. The children need to see her partiscipating and the homeroom teacher needs to learn the yoga in order to support you by teaching yoga on days you do not come. Lastly Lynnette suggests to be mindful of transition time. We try to keep the class flowing by having me at the front teaching and Lynnette going around doing assists, modifications and helping with any individual needs. When we do transition to yoga at the wall or games then there is nothing to do but allow the chaos until they can regroup. I 'd be happy to help you in any way.
