Hey, what do you think about gay men chanting the So Purkh shabad, to develop

healthy,

balanced male energy and to attract a loving male partner?

Yogi Bhajan stressed the healing power of women chanting that shabad, but he

didn't talk

much about practices specific to gay men.

Dear Zeke,

Sat Naam Ji, I bow to You. Ego's problem is that it likes to label us, we

have a name, a gender, a sexuality, status, title at work, career and so on.

This all hardens our identity. Then we secondly have lots of wants - even

wants to attract a partner, male or female - its still a desire. Thirdly,

to fulfill the desire of our ego we try many things and in religion people

try reciting the holy verses (Guru's Word - shabad) to fulfill their worldy

wants.

Without realising we have brought the Guru's word down to our level - into

the scum of maya we are living in. Baba ji said that using the Guru's Word

to fulfill our worldy wants just brings our Guru into maya.

Really, we need to let the Guru's Word lift us up to the Highest

Consciousness - God Consciousness. So no matter what verse we recite even

So Purak, it should make us come face to face with our own soul.

And that is the opposite of identity and only achievable if we have no

worldy desires behind our reciting.

By saying " Sat Naam " we are focusing on the God part within us, the soul,

the light. That has the quality that it is true, everlasting, permanent,

that is why it is called SAT (Truth). And Naam means God's energy, God's

presence, god's Cosmic Life Force behind the whole creation and the power

emanting from your own soul.

When we realise SAT NAAM is the TRUE PRESENCE then we lose the sense of our

own ego, which is called HAU-MAI by the Gurus. Meaning HAU - my presence,

MAI - Me i.e. My presence, I am something - me and myself are something and

doing something.

Guru amar Das ji wrote " O mind you, you are proud of your thinking, like you

know something, but realise that the enlightened soul remains humble. " (e

man tu mat maan karada je hau kichh jaanday, gurmukh nimaanaa hoi. SGGS)

dust of your feet

Harjit,

Thanks for your response. That makes sense. It seems to me the ultimate

challenge of the

householder is how to integrate " spiritual " and " worldly " aspirations.

What do you think of all the techniques given by Yogi Bhajan to fulfill

" worldly " desires - such

as meditations for abundance, beauty, even health? There was also a discussion

of chanting

mangala saaj bhaya to find your soulmate here on the earth plane. Is that not

also a " worldly "

desire? I spent a long time, when I first got into kundalini yoga, really

focusing on myself and

my connection with spirit, not seeking an outside relationship, because it felt

irrelevant to my

happiness and spiritual path. Then I realised that my soul had a deep desire to

share love

with another in a special relationship. I understand there may be aspects of

ego in this, but

it is also a longing for self expression, similar to being a musician (which I

am also) longing

to play my instrument - and even using it to facilitate healing for others (I

have played during

yoga classes, and people have come up to me deeply moved, expressing how my

playing

enhanced their yoga experience). Anyway, I understand your very sober ideas

about getting

spiritual wisdom mixed up in worldly goals. . . but I'm curious what you think

about all this.

Ezekiel
