Guest guest
Sat nam, dear Harpreet Singh, I am a Gemini also, and I we do need the subject of conversation to be interesting in order to pay attention (I sometimes think I like talking more then listening... . I find that since I started practicing Kirtan Kriya for 31 minutes every day a lot of things changed, including my listening skills become better. Kirtan Kriya 31 minutes daily activates the neutral mind, and when neutral mind is activated the ability to give and receive is enhanced (this means I am also able to hear more of what the other person is saying....:-) You cant try it for 40 days... Good Luck, and may you be blessed with patience to listen to yourself and those honoring you with their words. Guest guest
Sat Nam, I have done a whole class on Inner Listening. It is 5/21/08 class on Guru Rattana On-line. It is under the Gemini Archetype and listed under Air/Mental signs. These classes can be accessed from www.yogatech.com The exercises and meditation activate what I call the inner ear which we find between our ears. They neck/thyroid sets are good for this activation. They can be found in Relax and Renew (also available on www.yogatech.com. Who or what are you listening to? Your intuition or your chatter/stories? Many blessings, Guru Rattana :+)

Guest guest
Sat Nam Jios, Regarding 'listening', I have a wonderful technique to share. Many years ago, I consulted Yogi Bhajan because I was having challenges in important family relationships. I was sure that the problem was with the other people. One of his staff members phoned me and relayed Yogi Bhajan's instructions that I sit quietly every day and listen to every sound. Really listen to every sound and identify it. I did it for 2 weeks and checked back in with him as he requested (he didn't say how many minutes to do it so I just did it for the amount of time that felt right). During that 2 week period of listening, the family communication had resolved itself. This practice is one of the foundations of my personal practice and of my teaching and training teachers in Naad Yoga. Powerful stuff -- and extraordinarily simple. When you listen, you'll find that you're not thinking -- and when you're thinking, you're not listening. I've written it up here: Listening Meditation To develop the sensory system To develop intuition To enhance communication skills Sitting in easy pose, eyes closed and focused gently at the brow point. Listen deeply. Isolate and identify each sound that you hear. If, for example, a car passes outside, mentally identify the sound by stating " a car is passing outside " … " I can hear the hissing of water underneath the tires " . Then move on to the next sound…be it a fly buzzing, the sound of your breath through your nostrils as you inhale and then as you exhale, the sound of someone clearing their throat. If you feel that you have identified every sound possible, continue isolating every sound that strikes your ears, even if you have already identified it once. Break it down into its subtle parts. Listen to the sounds within the sounds. Allow every sound. Some sounds may seem unpleasant. Listen to them anyway. You may find that you tend to block certain sounds. Turn your awareness to those sounds, open up your listening ears and listen to them as well. If you find that your mind starts to wander, simply return to deeply listening. Continue isolating and identifying every sound for 3 to 11 minutes. Guest guest
Dear Dev Suroop Kaur, Sat Nam! Thank you so much for sharing this Listening Meditation. The guidelines are powerful. I find myself being pulled inward even though the initial listening is outside myself. Underneath all the sounds is the sound of silence. This exercise has reminded me to pay attention more. Listening is the way to be deeply attentive and present. I want to add something for everyone to watch for. I find that listening awakens the feeling function. I have been working with my students with this for several years. First we listen and then we realize that we are also feeling sensations in our body. The awakening of sensory awareness seems to be sequential. Deep listening leads to deep feeling. And the feeling seems to be easier to maintain. Check it out. Awakening in the body is a delightful sensory experience. Guest guest
Dear All, I've been practicing with Guru Rattana's on-line video courses, and for the first time have experienced the listening/feeling sequence she speaks of here, thus in day to day living it has increased awareness/presence in any and all situations. It is quite fun and entertaining to listen in a deeper experiencial way. Enjoying hearing the sound within the sound puts me right back on track...during the day. Thanks so much for the lessons and shining the Light! Sat Nam, Kathleen
