Guest guest
Sat Nam! One of my new student has really stiff joints so I suggested her to try Golden Milk as I read in many books. Sadly she's milk-intolerant (any kind of milk, also yogurt or goat milk). What can I suggest her (other than working with some kriyas)? Can the use of turmeric while she cooks help her? Guest guest
Sat Nam, Boswellia serrata, is used in Ayurvedic medicine for various inflammatory conditions. Grown in India and Northern Africa, boswellia is prized as frankincense in the Middle East. The extract of boswellia has been used to treat arthritis, asthma, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, and skin conditions. Along with its anti-inflammatory effects, Boswellia serrata has also shown to have cholesterol-lowering effects, to be an immunomodulatory, and has analgesic, anti-tumor, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial activities. Boswellia, combined with ashwagandha, turmeric (curcumin) and zinc, has been shown to have positive effects in the treatment of osteoarthritis. In a double blind placebo control study, patients taking the combined form of boswellia showed a significant improvement in pain severity, and disability score. In an animal study, dogs showed improvement in intermittent lameness, localized pain and stiff gait. All external factors that aggravate lameness, such as “lameness when moving” and “lameness after a long rest” diminished gradually. In another study, all patients receiving boswellia treatment reported a decrease in knee pain, increased knee flexion and increased walking distance. The frequency of swelling reduced considerably. A combination of Panchakarma treatment, nutritional changes and yoga, in addition to herbal supplements should help. All the best, Nirmal Kaur WA State ________________________________ Carol Redding <dilledmutton Kundaliniyoga Monday, December 8, 2008 10:04:32 AM Re: Kundalini Yoga Stiff joints Sat Nam, I would also like to know about this. Guest guest
I use oil for soothing and warming the muscles and the skin. As I live in Brazil I use copaiba oil with cat's claw (Uncaria tomentosa), this is good throughout the year, during summer I change to coconut oil, also use a mix of part of copaiba oil and andiroba. Also wonderful is the Weleda Arnica Massage Oil. They all soften and tone the skin. Weleda contains pure Sunflower seed and Olive oil, which, when combined with extracts of Arnica flowers and Birch leaves, stimulates the skin's natural functions. It is great to use oils for physical exertion, as massage warms the body and helps avoid muscular injury. After exercise, a relaxing mssage with the oils accelerates muscular recovery, ensuring that the muscles don't cool down too quickly, which leads to stiffness and cramps. Mix any oil, pure almond oil with any essential oils like Rosemary and Lavender that also give a warming, powerful fragrance and relief. I think the Weleda Arnica Massage Oil besides being free of synthetic additives including fragrance, colour and preservatives is not tested on animals and can be found worlwide maybe....I apply with circular movements at joints and along tights, arms and calves before giving classes and after shower. For the joints I also use a homeopathy formula ( extract 100MFC): Apis mellifica Asparagus officinale Bryonia alba Calcarea carbonica Dulcamara flexuosa Luesinum Phytolacca decandra Sanguinaria canadensis Silicea Sticta pulmonaria 20 drops in a bit of water 4 times a day. Cold showers in the morning with BOF, warm showers at night and walking on a bamboo the parrot way 9 which is walking so the curve of the sole of the feet adjusts on the bamboo. A friend of mine is using the genetic type diet as well. Sat Nam!
