I am having memory problems from coming off Xanax and alchohol. I

have been off Xanax for 1 1/2 years. I am having memory problems as

well as a lot of stress at work. I also have been having a hard time

following very basic instructions. I will be fired from my job. I am

looking for meditations that will help me get back my memory and

focus. I am also trying to avoid getting depressed once I get fired.

Thank So Much,

Merry Christmas

Hi Cat nip.

I am coming off effexor so I can relate. I have been at KY for 2.5 years

and the meditations are great. Guru Rattana has a website with lessons.

Try the Kirtan Kriya t balance the brain.

kundalini yogakyt15.html Also wait for more seasoned yogis

to reply. They may have better answers.

The book, " Seven weeks to sobriety " by Joan Larson, PhD will be invaluable.

I too used to abuse alcohol and her book and recommendations along with KY

was the key for me to get healthy. Even if you have stopped drinking the

brain and body has been ravaged and Dr. Larson's recommendations will do

the job. I have a holistic MD who often uses her recipe for ending alcohol

addiction and depression alleviation. Dr. Larson's program has a 75%

success rate. She primarily uses a nutritional supplementation program that

is easy to follow. Recently a book has been published on Yogi Bhajan's

" Super health " program for alcohol and drug dependence. I think those two

books would be critical to get to help you brain and body get the sustenance

it needs to restore itself. Check older posts (last week I think) to find

the link for this book.

Good luck..and God bless

Also, Sat Kriya is good for repairing the damages of addiction.

I don't know specific kriyas for memory, but speaking generally-

Stress produces cortisol which damages short-term memory.

Any Kundalini yoga will reduce stress, and so help memory. Kundalini

Yoga will also help you sleep better, which will help your memory.

Sat Nam!

I suggest you the book " Mending Alcoholism and Substance Abuse " by Deva

Singh Khalsa

ngh-Khalsa/BKS-009130.aspx):

there you can find many useful suggestions (kryas, meditations as well as

proper diet etc.).

Then, Mukta Kaur just published a book about the same topic ( " Meditations

for Addictive Behavior " -

http://www.itascabooks.com/index.cfm?page=Detail & isbn=978-0-9799192-1-3).

I haven't read it (I should get the book soon - the italian postal service

is a test for our patience), but reading some forecast it should be a good

help for you!

Finally, you can visit the website http://super-health.net

....and Merry Christmas you too!!!

man this is a hard one, I've been dealing with memory loss since my

late teens, and that was what brought me to KY.

At that time, I was introduced to KY by the writings of Dharma Singh

Khalsa, one of the top researchers on KY on the well-being of people,

and he specializes in customers with alzheimers.

Perhaps you should look at his website, drdharma.com. He offers

natural supplements, over the counter, that specifically work with

boosting one's mind abilities and well-being.

I have not tried his supplements myself(cost a little, and I still

don't have a fixed-work income), but I have read almost all of his

writings and he seems to have a superior understanding of memory and

memory impairment. Perhaps this could help you heal, or at least it

could be a temporary solution until you find a good physical practice.

Hi there,

I found a meditation for improving memory function from the KRI Teachings

database at:

http://db.kriteachings.org/Clients/ikyta/KRIindex.nsf/docid/163EF429B044AB018725\

The meditation is Elementary Adjustment of the Brain from the book Self

Knowledge by Yogi Bhajan on pages 41 - 42.

You can buy the book from: products/p07103.html

Benefits of Meditation: Elementary adjustment that will change third layer of

neurons in single rhythm and regulate first ring under stem of brain. Will cause

back of head to vibrate, give oxygen directly to brain, stimulate pituitary,

totally fix pineal. Can relieve loss of memory, loss of feelings, and

nightmares. When correctly done will cause change in spinal serum, bringing

renewed youthfulness

Time: 15 minutes

Important Notes: Healing pain is produced during exercise #3; if elbows are

twisted properly, chest automatically presses forward and rib cage lifts.

I've not tried this meditation myself, so please try it and let me know if it

worked for you or not.

In God We Dwell. Sat Naam,

Jasdeep Hari Bhajan Singh Khalsa.

Also, I think someone mentioned before but on Dr. Dharma Singh

Khalsa's website there is a free eBook called " Eleven Secrets to

Prevention and Reversal of Memory Loss " . This link to this ebook is:

Kind regards and blessings.
