Guest guest
Sat Nam, I just woke up from 12 hours of sleep. At first it is nice, indulging in laying there after my alarm goes off at 5am and not having to get into the cold. A soft, meditative feeling comes over me as i lie on the brink between waking and sleeping. Then many dreams ensue. and slowly i arise naturally becaue i cant sleep anymore and this is quite meditative. in some ways i feel nice. but once i am up, my lower back hurts by my kidneys, my head feels funny and im kinda out of it. i feel calmer, but also less energy and definite back pain. my wife can sleep like this and more everyday and feel great. does anyone understand the back pain? I have been trying to do sadhana for the last 7 months but can not seem to get up everyday at 4 or 5 for a whole week straight. for a while i was sleeping till 6 or 7, but now it has become 8 or 9 in the winter. i am 23, maybe i just need more sleep than 7 hours, but it doesnt seem likely.. anyone elses experiencial wisdom would be appreciated Shanti
Guest guest
Sat nam Shanti, Too much sleep gives me many physical pains. Definitely back pain. Also if you sleep on your stomach, that will definitely make for lower back pain. Observe if you are sleeping on your stomach. Guest guest
Sat Nam Ji, I too am going through trouble getting up for Sadhana so I can empathise, but I think the main thing is that I keep trying to and never lose hope in God and Guru. In order to maintain a higher level of consciousness I find I need to do some sort of spiritual practice before starting my day. The more I delay doing Sadhana the less conscious I become, and the more the thoughts and desires well up in my mind and siege me. Your lower back trouble may have something to do with how you are sleeping. You should go see a chiropractor in the first instance, and then perhaps introduce a few gentle spinal flexes in the morning. This should help ease the pain, but seeking medical advice is essential in case something more serious is developing. Its better to be safe than sorry. But certainly it is true that you do not need more sleep. I find that 6 and a half hours for me is plenty - the rest is just indulgence. Also, when I have had a constant Sadhana practice this time slowly drops to 6 hours, and continues to drop. Many yogis survive on 4 - 5 hours sleep easily. However, not doing Sadhana is like a continuous downward cycle, time to sleep will continue to increase and increase, until everything becomes sore including the body and mind. I pray everyday to God to give me the strength to both wake up and get up in the Amrit Veylah, so that I may sing the Lord's praises. I know the time will come when I shall not only have a good Sadhana, but a distinguished one. I can only keep praying, what other power do I have? I hope this post helps you in some way. God Bless. Guest guest
Yoga can transform your life. Just see the Yogis, how they are kind, intelligent, something special about them. Yoga removes toxins from your body, throws stress out, keeps you healthy, strengthens all the body systems- nerves, glands, digestion, muscles, etc..., increases energy, raises your consciousness to increase your understanding and acceptance of yourself and others, gives you peace of mind, and just makes you feel great! I have changed so much from doing Yoga. Best of luck to you Crystal.
