Breathing Patterns Before Sleep?

Sat Nam Akash~

the right nostril is the energizing nostril (sun)

I also wouldn't suggest doing " Breath

of Fire " before sleep as it is also an energizing breath.

Dear Akash,

 

Left nostril breathing calms you down for a good sleep. Right nostril breathing

energizes. Do not do before going to bed.

Sat Nam ,In my class today after our set I was bedding the girls down for

shavasana and one 12 year old whispered to me. Can you help me. I can not sleep

at night. After class she came to my mat and I gave her some suggestions. She

said she falls to sleep fine but all night long she has terrible dreams and in

this state of intense dreaming she never falls into REM sleep. What is a kriya

to get rid of bad dreams? Sat Nam Lily

I would certainly want to practise based on your advice however while I was

going through the pages : I saw that in one of the exercises Breath Of Fire

should be practiced as part of daily bedtime meditation.

I do not bring this up to contradict to what you said but to obviously be clear

in my mind and throw sum light on my ignorance.

 

Also please share simple kriya to shed any kind os insecurity, and increase self

confidence

I looked on the page that you are talking about and I do not see any Breath Of

Fire mentioned...so I'm not sure what to say about that...

what I saw was Shabd Kriya, which is a 4 stroke breath (sniffing in 4

strokes/exhaling 4 strokes)

then I also saw Left nostril breathing, which we said was to relax you.

I hope this helps to clarify...

Hello, I was told I couldnt keep taking the sleep aid I was on. I saw the left

nostril 4 count breath for relaxation. I have been doing it for the past 2

nights. I can say I feel asleep and stayed asleep until my dog started barking

at 4 this morning. But I did go to sleep at 11. And when I was up dealing with

my dog I went back to sleep until my alarm clock went off at 6:30. So I can say

this does work.

Satnam , Much thanks again for taking efforts to help me with my concerns. well

on the same page towards the bottom of the page there are the directions in Bed

time meditations for Breath of Fire. here is the extract " To facilitate the

concentration at the tip of the nose, do the following exercise. Bring the arms

out to your sides parallel to the ground, palms up. Do breath of fire for 1-3

minutes. This exercise balances the right and left hemispheres of the brain,

which makes it easier to maintain the focus of the two eyes. "

 

So although breath of fire is adviced for concentration purpose but it will

still facilitate energizing the mind i guess.

I just want to check and confirm whether breath of fire like directed should be

practised or is not adviced.

 

any short kriya dviced for confidene building and getting rid of ego! thanks
