Guest guest
Hello Group. I am new this group and new to Kundalini Yoga. I am looking for a teacher in my area. I live in Nesconset, NY which located about 1 hour east of NYC out on Long Island. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. I have already bought some DVDs to get myself started. Guest guest
Welcome. I also live on Long Island, although not as far east as Nesconset. There is a Sunday 9:00 a.m. class at yoga flow studio in Glen Head (Nassau County). That is the only kundalini class that I know of on Long Island. (www.yogaflowstudio.com) The teacher is Don and it is a wonderful class. When I started to practice, I also got some DVDs, then added Guru Rattana's streaming videos when they were introduced this year. I also went to weekend workshops when I had the opportunity.Sat NamAgampreet Kaur----- Original Message -----Yianni Gouvis Monday, February 23, 2009 5:12 amSubject: Kundalini Yoga New to Group; Long IslandKundaliniyoga: ygouvis Hello Group.> > I am new this group and new to Kundalini Yoga. Guest guest
Thank you so much Fiona for your guidance. I left a message for the studio to call me back. I am looking for forward finding someone to be my mentor/ teacher along this journey. The distance is a little bit far, but the time of the class is more of an issue. I have a hectic work schedule that involves work on weekends. Have you experience with other types of yoga and what made you select KY? Thank again Yianni ________________________________ " " <fionaabfab Kundaliniyoga Monday, February 23, 2009 10:09:11 PM Re: Kundalini Yoga New to Group; Long Island Welcome. Guest guest
Yianni,I have practiced hatha yoga regularly since 2003, after a trip to India. I found kundalini yoga by accident (if there are any accidents) when I was at Kripalu in the Berkshires. One morning I was up at 5:00 a.m. and was wandering the halls so as not to disturb my roommates. I saw a sign that Shakta Kaur Khalsa was having an open kundalini yoga class at 6:00 a.m. so I went in partly out of curiosity and partly so as not to wake the entire dorm with my restlessness. It's difficult to explain, but after one class I felt like this was the right yoga path for me both physically and spiritually. I enjoyed hatha yoga but always felt like there was another dimension out there that I wasn't getting. By popular demand, Shakta held another kundalini class open to all. When I got home, it was difficult to locate a kundalini class outside of New York City. I went to NYC for several workshops and did a kundalini workshop at Kripalu with Krishna Kaur Khalsa, which was awesome. It is quite possible to do kundalini on ones own, but it is so much better when there is a group of people or even better, a community. If you are in Suffolk County - there may also be a kundalini class in one of the studios in the Hamptons.----- Original Message -----Yianni Gouvis Wednesday, February 25, 2009 3:31 pmRe: Kundalini Yoga New to Group; Long IslandKundaliniyoga: fionaabfab Thank you so much Fiona for your guidance. Guest guest
Yianna...there is a Kundalini Yoga center called Radiant Life Holistic Center in Island Park, NY on Long Island, offering classes at a very modest monthly fee. I started Kundalini classes there last August. Perhaps you would like to get more info, although it is not close to Nesconset. Guest guest
Thank you Fiona. I found that Divine Yoga is have a workshop with Gurmukh on Monday 3/23. I did register for it. Her dvd is the first one I tried. I guess now I have to make a point to finish reading her book. Let me know if your planning to go. I would like to thank you in person. Their web address is divineyogany.com. I found them from Yoga Flow Studios. It is amazing how things connect. The lady I spoke with (Arlene) said that is going to tried to a group together from Suffolk. We should say hello to her this way she can determine interest. Do you wear the traditional white clothes when practicing? Where and what kind of clothes do you recommend I acquire? Be well. Guest guest
Thanks for the info on Divine Yoga. Surprisingly, is the first time that I heard of it though I did many searches on the web. I don't know if I can make Gurmukh's workshop but I will definitely try to get there for classes. At Yoga Flow - I have seen everything from traditional white to pink spandex - but any loosely fitting comfortable clothing is good to start.Sat Nam----- Original Message -----Yianni Gouvis Saturday, February 28, 2009 4:07 pmRe: Kundalini Yoga New to Group; Long IslandTo: Kundaliniyoga > Thank you Fiona.
