Guest guest
Hi dear people, I started coughing in April this year. Ear pain, painfull throat. After 3 weeks, i got antibiotics for 10 days, but that didn't help much. I never had any allergies and uselly no more than a cold per year, going naturally without any medicine. The coughing stayed through the months, it is very strong, feels like some thick carpet of wet hair would be disturbing in my throat, I cough deep and sometimes 10 minutes in a row. I get pain killers because of some intercostal neuralgy, caused by the hard coughing. I sweat a lot, I am tired and very sad. I got sometimes strong ear pains or running nose for a few days, right now the second. This might also be from interest: a few months before it all started, my menstruations disappeared - more or less. So the menopause is happening in parallel. I'm not happy with it, feel like unwanted. I am a single since 3 years now and worrying to stay alone. Doctors are not of any help right now. They made some x-ray of my lounge and they are ok. If I breathe deep I must cough, so I breathe from the tommy and quite flat. Breathing through the upper part of the lounge makes me cough. Also moving the head down - like by example if I lock my bicycle - produces coughing. Any suggestions, for alternative healing method or some simple breathing exercise? Thanks a lot for reading and maybe give me some advice. Sat Nam Saruj
Guest guest
Poor Saruj, you are in a bad way. By now you are probably feeling pretty dragged down. Sometimes you have to be your own detective and try different things until you start to figure out the problem. I went through a period of YEARS(!) where I was sick with upper respiratory problems almost constantly, and went to doctors frequently with only antibiotics and reoccurences to show for it. I coughed and coughed and coughed, would get better for a little while and then decline again! Maybe what I found out will help you, but it takes persistence. You kind of need to try everything at once because your immune system may be overwhelmed by cumulative insults. 1) Think about your diet- dairy products are huge allergens and mucus producers (so bacteria have a growth medium). I realized I was not just lactose intolerant after a few years of drinking lactose-free milk but also allergic. It can take a while after you quite dairy products to really notice a change, but with your particular symtoms, this is an obvious place to start. When I quit dairy, I became much less sensitive to other allergens and chemicals. Before I quit dairy for good, I got some relief by going to an asthma doctor to get prescriptions for a steroid inhaler (controls the inflamation taht leads to bronchoconstriction) and a bronchodilater to relax the airways. They worked, but since I quit dairy- no more inhalers as long as I avoid allergens!!! If you don't pinpoint your triggers pretty quickly, go to that kind of a doctor (allergy or pulmonary) because a regular GP won't prescribe unless you know what to ask for and beg, maybe. 2) Irritants- fragrance is poison, I'm convinced. Use only fragrance free soap, detergent, softener, shampoo, conditioner, etc. until you get your coughing solved, beacause they are with you all the time. Newspaper ink makes my nose run, but that's only when I'm right over it. Also think about the other chemicals you might be exposed to, like room deoderizers, perfume, smoke, or bug spray. 3) Allergies can start at any age- could you possibly have a roof, siding, door, or plumbing leak that is creating mold? Mold can make anyone ill. How about pets? Do you have a cat or ferret? If you can afford to get rid of the carpeting in your bedroom and replace it with a hard surface, that's ideal to get rid of dustmites. Get rid of any down comforters or pillows. I run a hepa air filter in the bedroom all the time- Enviracaire is the best brand I've found.I also use a dehumidifier because it's humid where I live. Dust mites and mold start growing when the humidity gets above 50%, a magic number to remember if you're coughing uncontrollably. Wine, booze, and beer all tend to cause stuffiness and congestion. If you've got insurance or the funding, you could get tested at the allergist's just to confirm some of what might be bothering you (they don't usually do food). The shots are definitely helpful, just a nuisance to get. You still have to avoid the allergens as best as possible! Good luck, and don't give up! Hope you make some headway on this soon and feel better, much better!
Guest guest
Sat Nam Saruj, I am be no means a medical expert. It sounds as if you may have a deeply sequestered sinus infection. Have you tried a neti pot? Find an herbalist and see what they recommend to clear infection, if that is the source of your discomfort. Good health, Joan
Guest guest
Dear Saruj, I have a friend that had a problem very similar to yours. She only set free of coughing when she started a treatment to heal the feeling of being afraid of dead. Homeopaty and psyco therapy helped her to be a normal person again. Sat Nam, Sandra. Guest guest
Hi dear people, thanks a lot for our concern. I did an allergie test today, and it looks like I am allergic to nothing like cats (I have animals here), dust or mould and the clasical allergogenes that are usually checked. I got X-ray, breathe test, everything is Ok. But the coughing, mucus in a sour throat and running nose remain. And I have pain in the back and on the left side of my body by coughing, and of course my chest is very sensitive, I can feel it when I breathe deep. The suggestion with the fear of death is taking my attention most in your answers because I have a kind of " getting old " crisis because of the menopause. I feel like I missed many opportunities in my life and made many mistakes and that it is " all too late " . At the same time there are many things I want and could do (even if they would be easier to achieve being 10 years younger) but I feel often like paralysed and spend a lot of time procratinating, because I am afraid to go for my wishes and also because they require energy that I am not sure to be able to find in myself. A very bad combination of course. And the coughing - I get really tired from it - is of course not helping! So, for now I am gonna go 2 weeks in holidays with my son and on the way back I intend to find a chinese doctor. I'm always late to take this step because I pay social security for classical doctors who find nothing, and at the end have to pay extra money for alternative doctors who are not recognized by the social security system... So I pay twice. Anyway, this time I have obviously not much options left. What I would like is to know if there are some yoga exercices who can help me a bit out. I don't know if I should start with the coughing or with the life-crisis. Thanks to everybody here. Saruj

Guest guest
Again, do you drink milk or eat other dairy products? Really, runny nose/coughing/mucus are common results. Dairy seems to make me more sensitive to things in the air, things I'm not really allergic to. Switch to almond milk or soy milk for a couple of weeks; what do you have to lose? The other comment about the sinus infestion is worth thinking about, but probably your allergist checked you out on that. A sinus infection drips mucus down your throat, irritating it, and into your lungs, irritating them and even infecting them. Yuck! It frequently can take more than one round of antibiotics to get rid of a sinus infection. I say this all from personal experience, unfortunately. Azithromycin (Z-pack) works great and fast at clearing out stubborn sinus infections. You can request it if you end up back at a doctor's office. Something's obviously going on. Guest guest
you should check, though that your house doesnt have pests like mold and the like. I had a cough for 2 months because of mold. It could also be that the material with wich your house was made has some bad substance in it(some of the newer sheetrock that comes from places with low quality control standards contribute to weaker immune systems). Guest guest
To Saruj......... You make me feel sad ... Menopause has nothing to do with being able to accomplish what you wish to. Start with your crisis in life but continue to investigate the cough. Start writing your life story and have a wonderful vacation. Sunshine, the beach, relaxation and meditation. I will leave it to others as to what yoga to perform. Start to shine from your heart and do not give up. This is a good time for most women. You are free now. Small steps at a time and good luck to you. Remember that you are loved. Teresa
