Guest guest
Sat Nam! I am at a crossroads. I have been working with Gurmukh's KY DVD and have done it 26 times, not straight in a row... 5 days a week. My knees are now in bad shape! It's the squatting. I have a strong body, legs, torso. I don't know what's up with my knees. It feels like there is fluid on them, and they ache even when I'm not doing yoga. Easy pose isn't so easy after about 5 minutes. So, despite advice to the contrary I tried the DVD one more time, and found the squatting to be painful this time. I have to change. I haven't found a modification for myself either. My nature makes me want to do it exactly how it is done on the DVD too, so not doing the squatting doesn't feel right to me if I do this DVD. So, I know if I had a teacher things would be better. My internet is not fast, but is DSL. I am afraid if I to Guru Rattana's video feed, my PC will get too bogged down loading video to get benefit from it. I can do most YouTube without a problem, and watching PBS online usually isn't an issue. HD is an issue and some players. Netflix online viewing is impossible. Would I have a problem with the Guru Rattana videos? Now, in the meantime. I have been doing the Maya Fiennes DVD off and on while trying to figure this all out. Physically it is not a challenge for the most part, but it really moves the kundalini like no other set I've done. I'm wondering if I should continue with this set next eventhough there isn't much of a challenge there because it moves the kundalini. Thoughts on choosing a set? Thanks, Kelli
Guest guest
Guru Rattana has a couple of free lessons at her streaming video site, why don't you try them to see if your connection and computer are up to snuff? I understand being careful with how you spend money with a family. I have dvds by quite a few different yogis and am taking teacher training now, and have great respect for Guru Rattana's approach to teaching. You will not be suffering sore knees, and you will learn a tremendous amount! Now, you will need to stop completely with the squats until your knees heal, and maybe then ease in with a small movement in that direction, gradually building up- lots of people only do partial squats in class. Really. Kundaliniyoga , " hillfolkmama " <kudzumountain wrote: > > Sat Nam! > I am at a crossroads. Guest guest
There's a difference between physical injury and challenging the nervous system in order to strengthen it, which can be uncomfortable but non-damaging (for instance, all those repetitive arm movements in KY that tweak my negative mind!). I'm just saying, protect your knees- they have to last you a long time. That's part of the downside of doing this on your own; hopefully your connection will be good enough for the streaming video, because Guru Rattana's classes have been designed with sensitivity to the at-home user to emphasize the awareness of the energies created. Her explanations are excellent, as is her use of the locks, breathing, and adequate rest between positions to experience the increase your awareness. Guest guest
Right... No, this is true pain and swelling. It isn't just the negative mind. I am now sick as well, and can't practice at all. So, it gives me time to think of what I can do next. I did check out the preview videos and it's not going to work for me. I so wanted it to. Her voice is just so loving and soothing, and the price is right for me. We live almost off-grid here. I wonder if I should stick with Hatha. There is a studio that opened in a nearby town, and I have taken some classes there. I am more familiar with Hatha. But, in June of this year, I will have been doing Kundalini Yoga for a year! I have been injured this time and one other with a bit of whiplash. lol Maybe I'm too Gung-HO. hehe Sat Nam! Kelli
Guest guest
Sat Nam, Kelli, A book that could help and inspire you now is " Meditation as medicine: Activate the Power of your Natural Healing Force " by Dr. Dharma Singh Khalsa. Also, Guru Rattana's classes can be a good watch. Even if you are unable to do some of the postures - visualising doing them may be a good beginning. Guest guest
Kelli, that's too bad that the streaming videos won't work. However, you obviously have the determination to move forward, which is excellent! Your idea of taking hatha classes is good. It'll get you out and about, making new friends with a common interest, so appreciated when you're home with the kids all day.The basic asana poses are especially wonderful for your endocrine system, improving balance, and strengthening your spine. Many of them make appearances in KY sets, in fact YB gave a list called " the magnificent 7 " , to be done regularly by women, which are....hatha yoga poses. Then you could supplement with Ky dvds and books and you'd have a nice practice going. A workable plan! So in the dvd world, I like most of what Ravi and Ana do, and Gurutej's Intuition for Women (I just got the Mental Clarity one and didn't like it so much). Those Amazon reviewers are helpful. Have at it, gal! Kundaliniyoga , " hillfolkmama " <kudzumountain wrote: > > Right... No, this is true pain and swelling. It isn't just the negative mind. Guest guest
Hi Kelli Sat Nam! Guru Rattana Online uses the same technology as YouTube - Flash. It should work fine for anyone with a DSL or cable connection. There are the occasional glitches at times when the server is exceptionally busy, but we are shortly going to be greatly adding to our capacity. One other thing to check - make sure you have defragged your computer. This can make a huge difference to its operational efficiency when running demanding programs such as videos. Guest guest
I could probably do most of it. However, the internet connection where I am makes it not so streaming if you know what I mean. It doesn't load properly, so it isn't completely viewable. Thanks though. Guest guest
Thank you. I will defrag and check again. YouTube still loads fine if it isn't high def. High def. takes twice as long to load as the length of the video. What happens when I view the previews is it either plays in extreme slow motion or it skips " da...da...da " . Not really conducive to a practice. I might check to see if my Flash program is up to date. Thanks for your help. I do want to very much. My tech skills are just not up to par. hehehe Kelli
