Guest guest
Sat Nam! One of my students is suffering from amenorrhea. Her gynaecologist prescribed some blood tests: everything seeems to be ok but she doesn't menstruate. Even an hormonal treatment had no result. Physically she should menstruate but nothing happens (this is the reason why I guess it could be something linked to her mental/psychological side). I tried to search in the archive of this group but I've just found few informations about some foods (parsley, eggplant, sage) able to help her. Do you know if there is something (meditations, kriyas) to suggest her? Thank you in advance! Blessings, Sujan S.
Guest guest
Just a possibility.. but if she is lean, meaning very low body fat, especially below 13%, that is one possible cause. If she very physically active, especially as a runner or other such exercise, that again can lead to this condition.  The condition intself is not necessarily a problem, unless it goes on for a prolonged period of time. From your description, I'm assuming she is not on meds or a birth conterol that is causing this. If her interist and ob/gyn finds no physical reason, stress and anxiety can be a factor.  Perhaps there are some alternative health or herbalist experts here can advise more.. k --- On Mon, 4/19/10, Yoga Jap <noi wrote: Yoga Jap <noi Kundalini Yoga Amenorrhea Kundaliniyoga Monday, April 19, 2010, 7:48 AM  Sat Nam! Guest guest
I read in a Brazilian book that amenorrhea happens to a woman who is having a retrocession in her emotional and sexual maturation. Instead of geting more mature, the woman begins to go backwards. It can happen due to a dramatic breakup with a partner or losing a beloved family member. There´s a feeling of rejection. The problem is NOT accepting the new situation. It´s a state of denial in which the woman beings to have infantile attitudes and that reflects in her body. Being a child, she can´t menstruate. Guest guest
This is pretty out there, but the following is some information I came across during my early days studying Kundalini Yoga with Yogi Bhajan in LA. Some of you may remember Diana Schnurr, who was the first publisher of Beads of Truth, and perhaps her husband at the time? I do not remember her husband's name at the moment. But, one day he showed me some research that described experiments conducted on two generations of women in England, which concluded that a monthly menses is not necessary for women. I thought he said the research was conducted by Dr. Bernard Jensen, but I have searched for years and not discovered any reference to it. Basically, the research found that women who do three things-exercise regularly; eat a vegetable-based diet with no animal protein, including dairy products; and who go swimming every day or immerse in cold water-do not menstruate. Why? Because each month, the lining of the uterus collects all of a woman's best and worst, her best nutrients and the toxins in her body. If she becomes pregnant, then that lining is used to nurture the fetus. If she does not become pregnant, then that lining is eliminated through the monthly period, so that is, of course, why the period is cleansing for a woman, as her body's toxins are purged, each month-(heavier period with more toxins, lighter period with less toxins). What Dr. Jensen theorized and claimed that he proved in the research is that if a woman's body is free of heavy toxins and animal protein, the lining in her uterus has only nutrients and she does not need to eliminate it. Instead, those nutrients are simply reabsorbed back into her body. Diana Schnurr's husband showed me the research and I read it, but did not get a copy. I loved the theory and was already vegetarian, taking a cold shower every morning, and doing lots of yoga, so I was not surprised when my period stopped. I was quite thrilled actually, and I felt great, very healthy. That was around 1970 or 1971 and I continued to have no period up until the time I became pregnant and gave birth to my healthy daughter in 1975. After her birth, I started loving yogi tea with milk and yogurt and other dairy products, so my period started again after about a year of nursing, and I was not motivated after that to stop it. So, I read the research and experienced it, but I have not found any documentation or seen any reference to the information anywhere, since that day when Diana Schnurr's husband showed it to me. I would love to find it and share the ideas with other women, because there is so much literature out there telling women if they do not menstruate there is definitely something wrong with them and they need to take drugs or undergo therapy to make their period start. Yuk. Okay, perhaps that is true sometimes, but it is not always true. Has anyone else seen or heard of this research? Or does anyone remember Diana Schnurr's husband's name? I seem to recall him saying that the research was banned in the U.S. -not surprising-but, these days there are less defined borders with the internet, so it should reemerge. It has to be available somewhere.? Guest guest
Sat Nam Amenorrhea can be caused by several things. Often dancers and models suffer from it as th hardly eat! polycistic ovaries causes it, menopausal symptoms. Sometimes severe bouts of depression may cause it. It is generally an hormonal imbalance of some kind and is worth being tested just to check what is going on. Acupuncture and herbs can help readjust the hormonal balance as can proper nutritional advice, kundalini yoga, (of course!), homeopathy and ayurvedic medicine. My advice is not to leave it get tested and make an informed decision as to what possibilities are available to you to rebalance. In any case unless you are post menopausal it is not a natural way of being and the menstrual flow needs to be encouraged in order to be a graceful and flowing woman. Best wishes love and blessings Jasrjaj - Yoga Jap Kundaliniyoga Friday, April 23, 2010 8:33 PM Re: Kundalini Yoga Amenorrhea Sat Nam! Thank you all for your suggestions!
