Amar Atma ----------- An Event With Forrest Whitaker, Whitney Houston, and Krishna, for Kundalini Yoga Training in Ghana, Africa ----------- International Association of Black Yoga Teachers (IABYT) hosts Celebrate Life, a Gala Fundraiser to launch a unique Health Empowerment Project in Africa. The kick-off for the project will take place on February 17, 2007 at the California African American Museum in South Los Angeles. Thousands of studies have demonstrated the efficacy of yoga and meditation as a complementary treatment for hypertension, diabetes, asthma and HIV/AIDS. In August 2007, the IABYT will host a Yoga in Ghana, Summit and Health Fest in celebration of Ghana's 50th anniversary of national independence. A major objective of the summit is to train a minimum of 25-35 African American and African yoga teachers in the use of yoga as a complementary therapy for persons of African descent suffering with chronic diseases. Golden Globe Winner Forest Whitaker, actress Vanessa Williams, Judge Mablean Ephraim, and Rev. Dr. Michael Beckwith will host the February 17th gala fundraiser. All are welcome to join them for an evening of entertainment, line dancing, yoga demonstration, video of yoga in Africa, awards and more! Proceeds will provide support for Black Yoga teachers providing workshops to Africans and African Americans suffering with diabetes, hypertension, HIV and asthma. The Yoga in Ghana Summit and Health Fest will include 12 touring days and 5 conference days beginning August 2-19th, 2007. This amazing tour is open to all, including students and non students of yoga. This is an historic year for sub-Saharan Africa and an event you will surely want to be a part of. They will visit the cultural and ancestral roots of African heritage, meet with elders, visit animal reserves and be a part of a great historical moment. The IABYT is a 501 ©(3) organization with a long history of yoga training for African American and other yoga teachers who use their professional skills to bring health and healing to members of the African Diaspora. They offer a professional 200-hour yoga teacher training course, in collaboration with Tenth Gate Yoga, through which students earn a KRI Level One International Teacher Certification in Kundalini yoga and meditation. Over their eight year history, they have provided yoga teacher training to over 350 men and women, most of whom are persons of African descent. With the different styles of yoga taught by certified instructors, they have conducted yoga classes for approximately 3,500 members of the African American, African and Cuban communities.
