An Event With Forrest Whitaker, Whitney Houston, and Krishna, for

Kundalini Yoga Training in Ghana, Africa

-----------

International Association of Black Yoga Teachers (IABYT) hosts

Celebrate Life, a Gala Fundraiser to launch a unique Health

Empowerment Project in Africa. The kick-off for the project will take

place on February 17, 2007 at the California African American Museum in

South Los Angeles. Thousands of studies have demonstrated the

efficacy of yoga and meditation as a complementary treatment for

hypertension, diabetes, asthma and HIV/AIDS. In August 2007, the

IABYT will host a Yoga in Ghana, Summit and Health Fest in celebration of

Ghana's 50th anniversary of national independence. A major

objective of the summit is to train a minimum of 25-35 African

American and African yoga teachers in the use of yoga as a

complementary therapy for persons of African descent suffering with

chronic diseases.

Golden Globe Winner Forest Whitaker, actress Vanessa Williams, Judge

Mablean Ephraim, and Rev. Dr. Michael Beckwith will host the February 17th

gala fundraiser. All are welcome to join them for an evening of

entertainment, line dancing, yoga demonstration, video of yoga in

Africa, awards and more! Proceeds will provide support for Black Yoga

teachers providing workshops to Africans and African Americans

suffering with diabetes, hypertension, HIV and asthma.

The Yoga in Ghana Summit and Health Fest will include 12 touring days and

5 conference days beginning August 2-19th, 2007. This amazing tour is

open to all, including students and non students of yoga. This is an

historic year for sub-Saharan Africa and an event you will surely want to

be a part of. They will visit the cultural and

ancestral roots of African heritage, meet with elders, visit animal

reserves and be a part of a great historical moment.

The IABYT is a 501 ©(3) organization with a long history of yoga

training for African American and other yoga teachers who use their

professional skills to bring health and healing to members of the

African Diaspora. They offer a professional 200-hour yoga teacher

training course, in collaboration with Tenth Gate Yoga, through which

students earn a KRI Level One International Teacher Certification in

Kundalini yoga and meditation. Over their eight year history, they have

provided yoga teacher training to over 350 men and women, most of whom are

persons of African descent. With the different styles of yoga taught by

certified instructors, they have conducted yoga classes for approximately

3,500 members of the African American, African and Cuban communities.
