Guest guest
Any Cleanse organizers out there have invitations for 3HO's group members on how to avail themselves of a Cleanse, which is something good to do with the change of seasons ? Guest guest
Spring time in Chinese medicine is the time of the liver. It is a time of renewal. The liver is responsible (amongst several things) for the smooth flow of Qi. With winter time we find the Qi of the earth has gone internal, winter is a time of going within and consolidating our practice. With spring there is a quickening as the Qi gets ready to emerge back on the surface through the plants and the earth Spring is about to express itself. Warm weather brings about a change in our internal chemistry. As yogis we can use this period of time to sling shot ourselves forward. We can leverage the bodies natural time for change to go to new levels. Since it is the time of the liver we should give consideration to cleansing this amazing organ. The liver is the only organ that when injured can regenerate itself. It ceaselessly cleanses our blood for a lifetime. We change the oil in our car why not give the liver an opportunity to cleanse itself. There are many simple ways to more sophisticated ways to detox and clean the liver. Some of the more simple ways are the master cleanse or the liver flush both can be found on our website www.thecleanse.com . You can also find more comprehensive programs of cleansing. You might even consider coming out to the land of enchantment, New Mexico, home of the Mother Ashram and doing a full on residential program where you can be safely supported and guided by some wonderfully talented licensed health care practitioners and certified kundalini yoga instructors. For more information contact Deva Kaur (who was fasting yesterday) @ 505-747-3323. God Bless Everybody and use the spring to your advantage.in order to expand your practice and enhance your growth. Guest guest
Sat Nam. Yogi Bhajan gave a diet for springtime. Perhaps someone can help fill in the blanks, as I don’t have total recall of it as it has been a long time since I have done it. It is I think 3 days each of a different fruit (papaya, melon, watermelon?), a 7 day lemon and water flush in between, and then back to the days of fruit and ends with mung beans and rice…I know someone out there can remember… With love and prayers, satsimran
Guest guest
Sat Nam Sat Simran, You are referring to the melon diet. There are several variations but I think it is much more of a summertime fast, as the melons are in season and the heat promotes detoxing. It may actually be too cooling (and upsetting to Vata Dosha which is already an issue for both Spring and Fall) for anytime but summer. It thoroughly cleanses the large & sm. intestines, revitalizes the body and removes poisons. Lets all pray for heat and lots of melon! One other thing. I've heard from some pretty experienced folks that the rather popular liver cleanses that involve the lemon oil (the details escape me) can be very rough on folks who are already "Vata challenged". Some folks just cannot do that particular liver cleanse. Maybe Dr. Kartar or Karta Purkh can expound a bit further. There are a number of other, more gentle routes. I like drinking lots of carrot, celery and beet juice in an 8:4:2 ratio. This is from Siri Singh Sahib. Melon Diet info (Notes from Ranjit Kaur's experience) Day 1: eat only cantaloupes which are warming and a good laxative. Day 2: eat only watermelon which will clean the liver, kidneys, and is cooling Day 3: eat only papayas which works on the intestines and digestion. Day 4: drink only water with lemon juice & pure grade B maple syrup which resolves deficiencies and rids the body of excess mucus. Day 5: drink only water, but not ice cold water! Then reverse the diet, day 6 is water, day 7 is the lemon/syrup water, day 8 is papayas, day 9 is watermelon, day 10 is cantaloupe. Take at least 3 more days to come off the fast: day 11 eat only fruit but NO MELONS day 12 eat fruit and yogurt... day 13 you can add vegetables, then day 14 add some grains, maybe some nuts. After that you can begin to get back to your regular diet, but with moderation and mindfulness. This is a huge commitment -- 2 weeks! and has been challenging for the first week I can tell you. But my yoga practice has been amazing, I have more focus and balance and more clear intention. I also have been able to attain some advanced Hatha postures I wasn't able to do before. Plus you will lose weight. I already notice a difference in the size of my arms and my belly So if you want to jump-start a weight loss plan I would recommend it, but (disclaimer!) ONLY if you can commit to the whole diet. Also if you have any other medical problems, you may want to consult a nutritionist or doctor before starting a big fast like this! But I feel absolutely great... Satsimran Kaur wrote: Sat Nam. Yogi Bhajan gave a diet for springtime. Guest guest
Sat Nam! I think Satsimran is referring to the melon diet. You can find it outlined in “Foods for Health and Healing” page 79 in the green cover version. It is a fairly intensive diet doing 3 days each of first cantaloupe, then watermelon then papaya, then water with lemon and honey in the middle 7 days and reversing the fruit for another round of papaya, watermelon and cantaloupe (in that order). See book for full description with details. I started it 6 days ago so I’m onto papayas tomorrow. So far, so good. I’m finding that I’m really de-toxing. While I have done it a few times before, it is very strenuous and it is really important to come off it carefully. First time I did it, I broke the diet with a chocolate chip cookie – Big mistake! I find for me I can only handle one day of the lemon water and then I reverse the cycle. Another recommended diet the Siri Singh Sahib gave for the Spring is called the Fruit Diet (on page 78 of Foods for Health and Healing). The fruit diet is usually done in April and May (somehow I remember the 15th to the 15th? – or maybe it was recommended from the full moon to the new moon?). It is much simpler. For one month you eat fruit - for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The only stipulation is you only can have one type of fruit at each meal. Don’t mix them. Happy cleansing everyone! Blessings!
