Guest guest
Sat Nam Jis, One of my new students asked the significance of 26 repetitions. As in spinal flex, for beginners. What's the background on this? The 26, then 52, then 108? I know there are 108 elements in the human body. I forget the basis for this numerical division. Thanks much and Sat Nam, Ananda Kaur
Guest guest
Sat Nam. How about: 26 main vertebrae in the spine, 26 bones in the foot, (and perhaps 26 bones in the skull ?). Double 26 you get 52. SP
Guest guest
Dear Ananda Kaur: I don't know about 108 elements in the body. I like the following interpretation: 1 for one consciousness, 0 for shunya, mastering the mind, 8: lay it on its side to make the infinite sign. Guest guest
Sat Nam, it was an ancient equivalent of our 1,2,3 minutes. The time of execution of an exercise (inhale and exhale) is between 1,25 and 3,00 seconds. So an exercise of 26 ripetitions you can execute in a time between 32,5 seconds (very fast), 55,25 seconds (medium), 78 (1 minute and 18 seconds) (very slow). Not more or less. The same is for 52 and 108. Consider that an exercise that you know you have to do 26 times you do it more relaxed, and may be you 'feel' the movement. If you become an expert of the movement you will go more fast and easy to more repetitions -> 108 may be. Less repetition slowest to more repetition fastest brings you to our times 1,2,3 minutes. The ancient people believe that repetitions were better than time : 1. in one minute today you can execute an exercise 27 times, tomorrow 32 and another day 25. So it's far from 'discipline'. 2. to count helps to stay concentrate. 3. you dont' need time instruments to bring with you. You can sit and meditate. However, you can find these numbers of repetitions in lot of ancient disciplines (e.g. Kung fu ancient styles) (108 steps, and so on..) humbly ss
